Good video. I built a home about twelve years ago for a submariner. He was quite smart, but didn't seem to be a guy like this documentary makes them out to be.
This video made these guys out to be kids that sort of have "issues" that drove them to want to be there. This guy seemed quite normal and a lot of fun to build a home for.
I was surprised to see that smoking was allowed.

I am one of those freaking nut bubbleheads. I qualified in submarines December 1975. STS1(SS).
Yes we used to smoke on the boats. The Rickover was commissioned in 1984 and decommisioned in 2006. The movie is 1989 vintage.

One of the reasons I went into subs. My girlfriends older brother was the A gang chief on the Bancroft in the early 70's. MMC(SS) Barry Doe

Fast attack sailor, qualified 1975 on USS Hammerhead (SSN-663) later qualled on Bluefish and Spadefish, all out of Norfolk.

I (Army) did some simulation training with Navy EOD in the late 80's on a sub while docked in San Diego. I forget the name but it was tight quarters for sure. You best not have bad hygiene or it will be swiftly dealt with. LOL

I was a forward ET, not a nuc ET. I'm freaking amazed at how many of us there are. Grayling (Sturgeon class) was a Charleston boat. From what I have gathered everything from Charleston SC is now down in Kings Bay, Ga. Don't know if the skimmers are still in Charleston, but I would guess so.
