After poking around with a few scopes side by side (primarily the mark 5 and the NX8), I'm 95% sure I've decided on a Mark 5 3.6-18 non-illuminated. Picking between the TMR and the PR1-MIL FFP seems to be my problem now.

I'm in the process of building a couple of light 7mm-08ai's with primary focus on hunting. I tend to dial elevation but hold wind. TMR (first pic) has 0.5mil sub-tensions and is less "busy", which I like, but the PR1 (second pic) has closer sub-tensions at 0.2mil spacing and would be more precise.

Has anyone used both and what are your thoughts on each?

I personally love the center dot with the clear halo. I have a Bushnell with a similar reticle and it's on my main deer rifle. For me I'd vote for the PR1.

I’ve got the PR-1 and would definitely pick it again. It’s not near as cluttered as those drawings make it appear. Plus the floating dot in the center is nice. I’ve never used the TMR but my SS 5-20 was .5 increments, so I am comparing it to something.

Mine is illuminated and it a waste of money for me. I’ve never used it.

I've looked through my buddy's TMR reticle quite a bit while out hunting with him, mainly comparing hunting situations at distance with his scope vs. a few others I have. I asked him about the illumination and he doesn't regret getting the non-illuminated version. I think I've used the illumination once on my ATACR and it was playing around with it on a hog, so don't feel I need it.

I'm kind of thinking the same thing as what yall said with the PR-1 and the floating dot, but I hadn't looked through one.

WP, I'm glad to hear it's not as cluttered as the picture shows, that was my main concern with it.

The dot on the PR-1 is what makes it easy to use if you’re not used to that type reticle. It has nothing within .2 mils of it. I let someone shoot it today that I believe had never shot with anything but a duplex in the past and he did very well out to 300 yards with it. Granted we were bench shooting with no time constraints.

I was the one with him at his range today. He helped me out a whole lot about my scope decision. Great guy!! Hes right, I had no idea what kind of reticle I was looking through but I put 3 inside about 2 inches or so at 300. I put 3 inside .75" at 100. That reticle was different from my basic duplex and I dont know what all those little marks meant, but they were too small to make it "busy". It just looked like plain crosshairs that needed a shave. We shot at 25x. He is also right that if I had to shoot a buck in a hurry, Im not sure either way if I would of liked it or not.

One full day of learning and usage, and you will be sold on a scope reticle of that type.

Seen it happen a whole lot of times.

Even just zeroing one is easier and faster.

I deployed with the tmr reticle and still using for hunting purposes. In almost every practical application I have seen for hunting the additional noise in PR1 and other reticles is pointless and most people can not effective use them for followup shots or wind holds because it all happens too quick. Just make sure your turrets and reticle are in the same unit and you will be fine with TMR having .5 and 1 stadia lines. Just my humble opinion.
