Just wanted to pass this on. I bought corn at Buc-ees in Royse City last weekend and 50% of the corn bags had a lot of molded corn in them. I could only use about 1/2 of the corn in those bags.

I bought 10 bags Tuesday at N. Ft Worth location. Guess I'll find out in a few days.

Does it say Wolfe City Grain on the bag?

They have had the contract for a while. If it's theirs, I can give then a call. Good folks over there, and they would want to fix this.

Thanks for the report. I assume that can happen about anywhere. Without checking records, I would wild guess ive bought about 1000 bags from Bucees over the last 3 years and I havent had that issue with a single one. Usually Denton or Terrell.

I bought 6 bags last spring and 3 were bad moldy...Wolfe City brand. Next time I was in Buc-ees (Royse City) I told them and they said if it happens again take a pic of the bad corn in the bag showing enough of the outside of the bag to identify it and they would replace or refund it. I have not had a problem since then.

In June I picked up 10 bags from Buc-es in Melissa and 3/4 of it was all black and moldy. I was 80 miles away and didn’t want to deal with taking it back so made a pile to feed the hogs. Got more this month and it was all good

The deer on my ranch have never turned their noses up at moldy corn. I don’t use a feeder so no clogging issues which is why I’m guessing folks don’t want to use it.

I just bought a pallet from Bucees Denton. It was not moldy but wasn't very clean as normal. I know its last year's corn and was dusty with some age but yes if you get moldy corn, take photos of the corn and bag ID and go back to bucees they refunded me a couple years ago. I hope they still do that.

I don't know what's normal. Is a little mold not a big deal? I've never got a bag from Buccees that didn't have a little bit of mold. Also never had one that had a ton

Moldy corn not good for deer. Can cause issues.

Are they storing it outside? Sounds like it got rained on then sat for a while.

I got 20 bags from Denton and my brother got 20 from Ft. Worth last weekend. Both looked good. $3 per bag cheaper than Throckmorton feed store too.

They store their corn outdoors (usually under an overhang but rain still gets blown on it) and the bags are woven plastic and not waterproof.
If there has been any rain in the area, they are suspect.

My average has been about 1 in 3 bags over last 5 years from Bastrop Buccees.
Basically, if it's rained at all, I wait for next batch and hope for the best.
It's a real pisser when you open a bag and it looks good, you dump it into feeder and a clump of mold falls into feeder.
No choice but to dig that crap out if you want your feeder to work.

I've had the same thing happen at 2 different local feed stores, so it sure isn't isolated to Bucees. I bought 10 bags at a bucees outside of Houston last fall returning from a job, it was good.

buy your corn from a local feed mill. theirs is usually stored dry, inside. OMG its fifty cents a bag higher. Most use "buying corn" an excuse to go shopping at Bucees. Bucees can't do everything perfect ya know. We all love Bucees but they are not the end-all.

I bought (8) bags in Ennis Friday afternoon and Saturday while filling feeders, I noticed a rank smell coming from the feeder. The corn had an awful smell, felt wet and some kernels looked like they were trying to sprout, while others were slightly wet and stunk.
I ended up buying more corn locally and taking the other (6) bags back to the Ennis store on the way home to get a refund. I didn't check the rest of them in the field as I figured the rest of them were bad and recall seeing this thread a week or so ago.

I guess the moral of this story might be to tear a corner take a look, get a whiff and staple gun the bag shut after inspecting at the store (if its good). If its bad, get a refund.

I had eight bags from Buc-ee’s in Royse City that were bad. I stopped in and talked to the general manager and he promised to make it right. Didn’t have room in my truck to load 8 bags but he took my info and said next time I’m in the area to stop in.
