I watched him pitch the last win of his career in Arlington Stadium in 1993. We got a foul ball from the game and I kept the ticket stubs and ball together not knowing it would be his last game. A few years later I got them autographed by him and they are now on my office wall.

Im surprised by that and find it a little hard to believe.
While it seems every pitcher throws 100 mph these days (and most MLB hitters can also hit 100 mph fastballs too), it just wasn't that way in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. To be sure, there were some hard throwers back then. But Nolan was one of a kind, and a fierce competitor like no other. Watched it last night with the family and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. To the point that MLB quality hitters were shaking uncontrollably? Scared to death to face a fastball that was 5-10 mph faster than usual? Yeah, I’m not buying it, either. Nolan was exceptional. Let’s not make him something he wasn’t, though. While I'm not vouching for shaking hitters...never witnessed THAT, but the movie alone is proof enough that he was one of, if not THE most, intimidating pitcher in history. When guys like George Brett, Pete Rose, and Dave Winfield talk about their lack of desire to face him, I'll take their word for it. Nobody is arguing that.

Yes on both accounts. At Longhorn baseball camp one summer I saw a 14 year old kid from Katy take Roger over the fence. He literally threw a fit. The next hit he bounced it over the fence. He was very unsportsman like

we use to live one street over from him in Georgetown in Cimarron Hills. His wife and my wife played tennis together - several times when we went into the restaurant/bar at Cimarron they would be in there and we got to sit and visit with them some. He is about as down to earth as you can find - we talked deer hunting mostly - his two sons and their familes are first class people too

He is my all time favorite athlete. Even thought I was a high school and college basketball coach he was still my favorite. Got to see him pitch as a kid and he plunked Canseco and was tossed from the game. I will never forget it. Literally bumped into him on the sidewalk and he talked to me and my dad for about 15 minutes. Never talked baseball, he and my dad talked about the oil field and cattle business. Super nice guy. Didn't bother him for an autograph. I think he really appreciated that.

I saw Nolan pitch several times at the Astrodome. We were sitting in the first row by the visitors on deck circle one time and i couldn't believe how many batters were literally shaking uncontrollably. Some of those guys were scared to death to face him. Im surprised by that and find it a little hard to believe. While it seems every pitcher throws 100 mph these days (and most MLB hitters can also hit 100 mph fastballs too), it just wasn't that way in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. Let’s not make him something he wasn’t, though. I suspect that has a lot more to do with his early reputation for wild pitches than the speed alone.

If you’re even a slight fan of the great game you need to take the time to watch Nolan Ryan’s autobiography on Prime. Very well worth the $5 rental. Kudos to Nolan for controlling and producing his own story and doing it in a outstanding manner. Much better than if he’d turned it over to ESPN. I’m glad to say I saw a number of his games in person and will be able to tell the grand kids about his pitching heroics some day. Russell Groves is the producer, grew up in Graham, Tx, I haven't seen him in years but he was an excellent kid from a great family.

Saw him pitch many games in the Dome and then in Arlington. Was right behind home plate on 2nd row for his 7th no hitter. Man I can still hear his grunts on those pitches. Attend almost every game he pitched in Arlington stadium. Lived across the street and buddy worked in clubhouse so was able to be let it, start in the bleachers and work way down to prime empty seats.
I'll watch it tonight

One of my top 5 favorite athletes of all time and just a great man and pitcher. And if you mess with the old bull you will get the horns..........
High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!
