Yeah, my free range chickens are not laying any...zero. I just got them about 4 weeks ago and assumed it was the heat and change of venue, it's kind of a trade deal we are supposed to have, food and shelter for eggs.

I eat 5 egg whites and 1 whole egg every day from our chickens. The dog and pig get the yokes I don't eat. Got about 20 layers right now. Won't ever go back

I've got 35 dozen on my counter right now, wish yall were closer I'd give you all you want at anytime. I just bought a bunch of 1/2 gallon Mason jars, and working on a spicy pickled egg recipe.

I've got Rhode Island Reds, White Leghorns, and Barred Rocks. Also have Runner Ducks, looking forward to trying duck eggs for the first time when they start laying. I really wanted some Easter Egger's too, maybe some other time.....years from now LOL.

The friend that I get mine from sells them. I want to say she only charges $4 a dozen. Maybe sell them to cover your price of Corn this year!

I was selling mine @ $4.00/dozen with a new carton, $3.00/dozen with your own carton. Goal has been to try & get .25 cents an egg. I sold 30 dozen to an old oil field friend of mine that owns a local Asian market here, but he said business is slow now so he quit buying. I just don't want all of these eggs to go to waste. If I can't sell them I'll just give them away (been doing a lot of that), or throw them at my neighbors mean azz dogs when they come after me on the Ranger. About to use a bunch for target practice.

Hech yeh! I posted my coop build on the Chicken Thread in DIY. Still working on it. Had 2 hens die from the heat, so just cut some nice vents.

Man, ive lost a 100 over 5 years

The bird net since has saved me

This current crop was 6 birds a year ago, Ive got 5 now

At one time I had 20 but I replaced that 20 several times

I caught an owl last weekend trying to dive bomb

Biggest issue is coons, they're smart.

I had once figure out how to unlock a door

Every day. Have 6 Golden Cinnamon hens that spit out 5-7 a day. Those eggs in addition to my beef I raise and have processed plus venison make a hell of a lot of good meals. Even got fresh milk .

Gonna take 6 months for the first egg to show up, then the flood gates open. Make sure you have them on 16% layer crumbles or pellets for good production.

Yes sir, and will do.

I actually never knew the difference until you kindly gave me 2 dozen. Never looking back they’re so much better than the store bought eggs.

There is no comparison between fresh yard eggs and store bought, especially fried, poached, or boiled.

Me too. When we were producing about a dozen a day, I gave them to all the neighbors. In return, I occasionally asked them to watch the chickens when we went out of town. I now have a system that will keep the chickens fed a month or longer if we are gone.

I'll go 4 or 5 years with a garden, then take a break a few years. Problem we have is, I get a garden started, then we'll go out of town for a month. When we retrun home, everything is dead. When we don't go on a long summer trip, I have tons of tomatoes, a large variety of pepper plants, squash, okra, cucumbers, and a variety of other veggies. I guess if SEHTF, we would be in pretty good shape. laugh

My garden space is so prepared and ready to go with lake soil and chicken poop, next year when I plant, it's going to go crazy.

What’s the deal with washing the eggs ? Time left out versus refrigerated shelf time.

Dang, Skinner! You weren’t messing around.

I very much prefer home grown eggs, and I eat a lot of eggs. I source them as best I can.

Washing them removes a natural protective layer. Once they’re washed, they need to be refrigerated.

Or you can lightly coat them with mineral oil.
I know they'll last 8 days that way on a camping trip without a cooler
and not spoil
