We had some rain week before last bit as usual you can’t even tell.

Deer are so hungry they actively hunt down any vehicle that comes thru the pasture.

Really worries about my oaks, many have lost their leaves….praying to god they bounce back

Did find this. Not a perfect point by any stretch but at one time some caveman had worked it.

You guys need a bunch of slow rain, I pray your trees survive but I bet they’ll be fine once they get some serious moisture this fall so I wouldn’t worry to much about them. We’ve been blessed with consistent rain up here and everything’s still pretty green for the most part but the deer are hammering the food and water sources. Mother Nature will provide you guys rain at some point but it sucks at the moment for a lot of the state.

With the drought this year I bet a bunch of big deer are killed with them having to do things they normally wouldn’t do to get food and water,

Thump, I have property just South of Bowie. The spring fed creek that has flowed for all of the almost 40 years that I’ve owned the place is dry. I’m not sure how long it takes springs to re generate. I’ll be going the next couple of days to check on stock tanks. Two small ones are already gone. That leaves a 1/4 acre and a 3 acre ones.

I saw that a fire had just popped up a little bit south of me. No strong winds to drive them by is sort of a blessing.

So...where are all the hurricanes the climate alarmists promised?

Might want to start off getting the name right......that would be God, capital G. I hear you though, 1.5" measurable precip out here since October 2021. Afraid our mule deer herd is gonna take it on the chin.

I blame the spell check on the iPhone. It does not autocorrect for God…..tells you something about them

I am not hunting west Texas this year but I can only imagine how harsh conditions are there.

With maybe the exception of some areas of the coast, the whole state is very dry. And we usually don't start getting rain until the first part of Sept. By then quite a bit of the state will be burned up the the fires. Dozens of fires every day it seems.

At my place in Walker county, we got about a quarter of an inch the first week of June, then nothing since then. Back in 2011 drought we lost a lot of trees. Not looking good for this year. The creek a half mile away has water but there’s no food for the critters.

Your oaks will be fine, they are just shedding the unnecessary.

The Live Oaks did the same thing in 2011 in Central Texas and a lot more of them looked like this. They will shed their leaves and go dormant. Most of them will make it but some of them will not survive this dry period. It is not just Live Oaks but all the oaks will thin out some more this year. I really don't even want to begin to estimate how many have died on my place just this year.

I dug down about 5 ft into an old creek bottom with the backhoe. No moisture even digging down that far. Medina River has completely stopped flowing going into Bandera. Starts again past town where the sewer flows into it.

Some of my shin oaks are looking rough as well but I have some that look ok. I have a few live oaks that seem to be faring ok as well but majority are showing signs of stress with the ones in the pics looking the worse. Lord I hope they make it they are some of the nicest trees on the place

I had cedar cleared out of a section of a dry creek bottom. I stressed to leave the Spanish Oaks. Now two or three fairly big ones have just fallen over. I know they don't live forever.

We lost a lot of oaks in 2011, and they do not look much better now. They are not just shedding the unnecessary, but they hardly ever got leaves in the spring.
In 2011 we had deer running into the water troughs every evening. We are not far from this now.

You know we don't start getting hit with those systems until August/September. But yes there seems we usually have more storms in general crossing the Atlantic by now.

It is bad, really bad. Not a drop at our place since 4 weeks ago today and every day except 3 has been 100+ with wind drying it out even more!

I'm at a little over 9" for the year and last year at this time was at a little over 32"

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

I'm in the same boat. We're at 10.25" YTD and our "normal" YTD is about 30"...so we've gotten 1/3rd of what we should have...and I'm in East Texas.

I have officially decided to not hunt my place in Dickens county this year. Deer look poor and run down, antler development is terrible on both the WT and MD. It will take several years to recover from this. The roads are like driving through baby powder the dust is so deep and fine. Miserable. Will be interesting to see what kind of harvest will be recommended by the biologist on big ranches that are MLD.

My roads are awful too. Brown grass is back. My wife insisted on driving around the place, so, with her lungs, I insisted we go in the Tundra with the windows up and the a/c on. She griped about the ride...in a 1/2 ton. I've spoiled her too much. She loves to look for the goldfish I put in the windmill water tank. I had a weed problem. Now I have a goldfish problem. Prolific little suckers. Anyone in the western Hill County need some goldfish? I could just put them in the water troughs for a 'coon buffet.
