I've seen coyotes eat a lot of watermelons over the years. Sorry devils!

Coyotes do eat them.
I was cutting hay on my grandpas place and he had a small water melon patch there.
I was seeing water melon out in the patch and wondering why grandpa threw them out there.
I got down and looked and they had teeth marks in them.

Coyotes love watermelons and other gourd type plants.

I admit it’s strange

About a month ago I saw a doe eating pieces of a watermelon that was busted on the side of the road.
A lot of critters like things that are sweet and juicy.

The coyotes will sniff the watermelons and find the ripe ones and actually jump on them with their front legs until they get through. A friend that grew them used to watch them do it, pretty tenacious critters.

We had a Doberman that ate tomatoes. I fed one of my current dogs Granny Smith apple just the other day. It is certainly not what we’d think but canines will eat other food groups aside from meat.

Yotes are opportunistic and will eat just about anything that won't eat them first. I have lots of TC pics of yotes eating corn at feeders.

Bought a couple of cantelopes the other day. After cutting off the rind, I saw a couple of does standing outside. They didn't leave a single piece. All gone in a few minutes.

Most dogs I've owned have loved watermelon so I guess coyotes would too.

Coyotes will travel several miles to get in a watermelon or catalope patch no matter the conditions.
Adios,

Some of my watermelons were ready to pick but the coyote beat me to it.

Yep, coyotes love watermelons. There are some huge watermelon farmers down South, their fields are prime yote hunting ground when the melons are in.

Coyotes will eat just about anything. Watch a deer get inside a whole watermelon.....they love watermelons. I used to feed watermelon and cantaloupe rinds to deer in my yard years ago.

My father-in-law lived outside Plainview, and that's how the melon farmers knew their melons were ripe - when the coyotes started eating them.

If coyotes love melons and cantaloupes so much why does no one plant them to decoy them in for shooting? Dumb questions are thing I am good at so if this fits in the category of dumb questions I apologize ahead of time. grin

Watermelon patches are great 'yote hunting. I used to set up a hide on the top of pump shack about 400 yds off. A 25-06 with 125gr Nosler partitions did the trick.

Yep. I shot one in the field behind the house Monday that was eating grasshoppers! He was gouging on them.
