Buddy of mine checked his Scheels CC statement this morning. He saw a charge over $10,000 at a Powersports shop (4 Wheelers, personal watercraft, etc.) I Arkansas. Needless to say, it wasn't his.
He immediately called and reported it. Stop was put on his card, new one issued. They said it would be removed from his card and turned over to the Fraud Investigators. They went over 4-5 charges which were his.

I don't understand how something this larger can be bought with a stolen card. It happens to me a couple times a year it seems but nothing as big as this. Anyone else ever had this large a purchase made on their stolen card?

All it takes is a fake drivers license and fake card. I haven't had a single charge that big, but I had a bad case of identity theft and more than that amount was charged. Has happened to me at least 10-15 times.

Someone did 21k worth of dental work (dentures or acrylics or something similar, I can’t remember) on our card a few years back. How a dentist office doesn’t verify that better is beyond me. Visa said no problem and we went on but I couldn’t believe they got that big of a charge through without any red flags…..when I went on my honeymoon in Florida years back my card was declined at the first liquor store I hit, had a call from Visa before I left the parking lot. Guess a 40$ liquor store charge raises red flags but not high priced dental work lol.

People dislike credit cards companies but this is where they shine.

True but funny story. A girl I worked with had a deadbeat father of her children. Guy never paid a lick of child support ever. Apparently ole boy was so broke he sold his SS/DL to an illegal and the guy started working with his ID. All of a sudden child support started rolling in from using his SS/DL. Poor guy was paying for someone else’s kids!

Just canceled mine this morning and issued a new one in 7 to 10 days. . Over $750 bucks that wasn't mine. $350 bucks in Killeen Tx and another $250 bucks in Cedar Park. Ain't been to either of those places. Another smaller charge. Valero and Sunoco Stations. This ain't the first time for us. Thieves, Kill um it's the only way.

I had mine used in a skate shop in Dallas for $400. Not only would I not be caught dead in the Dallas chit hole, I wouldn’t be buying skateboard’s and chit.

Supposedly there was a news show where someone with a device in a purse was able to walk through a restaurant and collect quite a few CC numbers. They sell special card wallets for that, but I haven't fooled with anything like that yet.

My card got skimmed, or whatever its called, at a gas station about three years ago and a few small charges slipped by before I caught it. CC company fixed it without an issue.

Does this happen on debit cards the same or just actual cc’s?

My debit card got hit a couple years ago but I caught it before it got out of hand, only a couple charges for $99 each. The only place that I had used it was getting snacks heading out of Del Rio.

Both. All my cards are set up to text me instantly on every charge, regardless of amount. Has come in handy several times.

Got a alert on my phone one evening about debit card use for $200. Called them and put stop to it. They asked if I was sure it wasn't me, told them it shows time stamps doesn't it? They confirmed and asked them how did I use the card at ATM in Odessa 10 minutes prior to charge in Michigan for art supplies...look at a globe or map! We ain't close together! I was at a bar within 3 minutes of getting cash and well on my way to being intoxicated so a charge on debit card sobered me up!

Mine has a daily limit on it.. Unless, I call.. And everybody at the bank knows me..
If you even approach my limit, I get an alert on my phone... And it ask, if this
purchase is me.. I can stop it, even before it happens...

I made a 17,000 dollar purchase on mine last Friday. I did it over the phone and the person never saw me. All she cared about was that the card worked and she got a sale.

Mine was once compromised for a hair cut in Florida at the cost of $650.00. They (credit card company) called me after the fact. They must of known I have very little hair.

About 15 yrs ago, had someone purchase a set of golf clubs on my card ($600.00) in London, England.

Never been there. C/C company straightened it out.

Someone bought an overseas ticket from Austrailia or something to an island for $6k. They even made the trip before I caught it. I setup alerts after that so any charge over $300 sends me texts and emails. Chase is like ok. Here's your new card.

Me & wife have been hit with CC fraud numerous times. one time card was locked in safe , never used. Somehow limit was increased on card & maxed out in some other state.

One good thing if it's a CC fraud - you are not liable - get a new card & party on!!!

No, i don't like a thief . But until the Banks & CC company can stop the fraud. There is really no use in getting pissed off. They just write it off or claim on insurance.

I would rather use a CC than my Debit card due to fraud !!

Sorry it happened .

Wells Fargo told me that debit cards with the Visa logo are covered for fraud the same way a credit card is.

We have been hit a couple of times for small amounts but it was long ago.

Ironic Debit card moment Back in the summer of 2013 I decided to treat the kids to breakfast at Bill Smiths in McKinney.
I had no clue they did no take CC or Debit card. Usually I have at least $60 + in the wallet that morning I only had $7.00 .
Fortunately they had a ATM inside the cafe but for some weird reason it was declining my card although we had plenty of cash in the bank.

Told our waitress what was going on and I would head to the bank and come right back and that she could keep my kids as collateral, she laughed and said take them with ya.

Run down to the nearest Bank of America and they said the reason it was declined because it was out of my normal shopping area bang
We live in N Dallas which isn't that far.
