I have 1500 acres of pasture land and am wanting to start doing quail hunts. I am not a bird hunter so I know very little about quail hunting but was wanting to earn some extra money off my land. I was thinking about charging $250ish per gun. I would release 15-20 quail per hunter before they hunt. I assume I would need to hire someone with a dog yo guide them. I am about an hour south of Houston so I figured there might be a high demand in my area. I was just seeking general advice from experienced hunters on what they expect from a quail hunt.

welcome And that's all I have to say about that.

Well you need to start learning abut raising quail, build incubator houses and flight pens and that is the extent of my knowlege. There are places you can buy quail and other upland game birds but raising your own may make you more money. Good luck with the venture.

There is time, and you must take it, to lay your hand on your dog's head as you walk past him lying on the floor or on his settle, time to talk with him, to remember with him, time to please him, time you can't buy back once he's gone" GBE

Bobwhite quail are not fully mature until 26 weeks (6 months). I sell mine at 17-18 weeks to be hunted at this age they are good to go and strong flyers.
I'm in the process of moving and won't be back in birds for almost a year (Lots of things to do first.)
When I'm back in the Bird business I'll post that I have birds for sale.

A good guess is the birds will cost you $7==$10 a bird. Better check how much liability insurance is, if you own 1500 acres, you will be a target. Since you have no dog and no knowledge of quail,,,, the analogy is someone who starts a restaurant with no experience. I think any one that is business savvy would advise you to keep searching for a different source of income.
I have no clue as to land value,,, but stabbing in the dark, at $6000 an acre X 1500 = $9 million and 3% a year on $9 million is = $270,000 a year.
Just thinking out loud.

Depending on the type of coverage on your land, it could be perfect for this type of thing.
Some area birddog clubs, might be interested in holding hunt tests, or field trails.

Shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden.
Experience is what you get, when you didn't get what you wanted.
