Yeah. The 4th is only Monday. Most suppliers will be closed 4 days. And next week looks like it’s going to be another hot one. I think we already have nine and 100° days this year. If they are right about next week we will be equal with the summer of 2011 and we will have the rest of July and all of August to go.

Years ago, on the 4th of July, I had the whole family come to stay with us in Houston. Lots of folks. The downstairs A/C died. I finally reached an A/C guy at his work, and he said he didn’t work on the 4th. I told him I was desperate, with the house full of people and nowhere else to go, and would pay whatever it took. He came over and fixed it. Bless him. And he didn’t gouge me.

People thing we are highway henchmen, try to get a counter guy to come open on a holiday.
If the 2nd amendment was written just to include guns for hunting, why is there not an amendment to protect fishing poles?

Our main unit went out about a week and a half ago. Had my AC guy come look. 19 year old unit, needs a new evap coil and 20#s of R22. R22 is $120 a pound right now. Got quotes for new system, 5.5 ton, 18 seer two stage unit is about $10k. Called home warranty company since we've only been here 6 months. Waiting until today before their contractor could come out. He confirmed the evap is shot and we need freon. Waiting on warranty company to see if they approve his patch job, if not it'll be a new unit. Whoa Buddy. Have a 30 Pound sealed bottle of R22 if you need it. That's Highway Robbery on the $120 a pound. That would be $3600 for 30 pound bottle. .My Bottle (Dupont I think) is left over from my Prevost Bus I sold. Had 3 AC"s in it that took that juice. Even $25 a pound would be like Jessie James Robbing Banks on a Bottle. There is not a chance in the world you will find anyone selling R22 for $25 a pound as they would be taking a huge loss. I believe that a 30lb drum of R22 is running close to $2,200 and even then you don’t get the full 30lb out of the drum. Hey Hotshot,,, You wanna bring your $750 cash and get a sealed bottle 30 pound Bottle of Forane R22? Got 1 new in the Box. You make the Gazillion bucks off it.

I’m in the same boat, sorta. Ac went out last night, total loss. She’s 20 years old and been waiting on this day. I set up 2 window units this morning and have the upstairs unit running. Wife says it’s more comfy than normal. I had 8 quotes today for a 2.5 ton, 16 seer.. ranged from 7k-9.2k I assume that’s condenser and coil.

Wife says it’s more comfy than normal. I had 8 quotes today for a 2.5 ton, 16 seer.. ranged from 7k-9.2k 2.5 ton for over $7000? Wow, that's not a good price. I got back in town on Friday night after being gone for 9 days. Our downstairs was 90 degrees when we walked in. Long story short, AC guy came out the next morning (Saturday) and said the condenser in our 17 year-old, 5 ton, 12 SEER Trane unit was shot and needed a new unit. In the interest of getting a new unit installed quickly and less costly without all of the duct work of going to a variable speed 20 SEER 5 ton (like I have upstairs), he ordered a new 5 ton 15 SEER unit on Saturday and had it installed by 11:00 am on Monday. Total cost was $3600. Went from 84 degrees down to 74 in about 6 hours yesterday afternoon.

Man, it's bad juju I even read some of this. I hope you all get cooled down soon. I try to have mine checked regularly, and most of the units are fairly new, but you never know. I remember once, at the old house, I was on a long road trip for work and the a/c went out...in August. She was not very pleasant on the phone.

I had to give instructions to my wife on how to run a fish tape up the a/c drain outlet outside, then suck it out with the shop vac. All in 100+ heat. What a wife!
