I know that nobody responded to this back July when I was thinking of signing up but I thought I would try again because somehow someway in the bottom of the 9th I actually won a hunt this year. And Searim it is.
Shotgun only which sucks but here we go. You can hunt till 10pm and baiting is allowed and it is compartments. So I am guessing throw some bait and some pop up blinds and get after it,
I just want to know what to expect when I get there.
Thanks fellas

Sweet Erny!! I am in the first hunt. I am setting up my shotgun for nighttime hunting since we can hunt till 10pm that will be interesting. Lots of open land and grass to look for them in. I am going to ride around as much as I can standing in my truck bed (stopped of course)with my binocs and glass it up during the day. And I am guessing since we can bait I will set out several spots to walk to and check at night and of course may have to set up a blind or 2 also for the night time hunt. I have my night vision binox but a good thermal monocular would be very valuable also.
I am just guessing at this point since I havent been able to find anyone that has any knowledge of the hunt.

After some more research I understand why nobody has answered this post. They have only run this hunt twice now in the past 5 years and they have 8 tags total 1 year and 6 the next. And a few no shows. 10 guys have hunted it in the past 5 to 7 years. So this place is going to be fun hunting hogs that have never been pressured before, Just 2 people hunting the park at a time and I have the first hunt, Just wish I could use my AR and DNV. Looks like walking teh beach and dunes is going to be the plan after studying the area like it was final exams on google earth. I am having fun setting up my shotgun for night time hunting. Going to the range tomorrow to put some double 00 buck down range and some much needed practice with a shotgun. Now I am starting to get excited about this hunt. Camping and hunting a desolate beach at night for pigs. Does it get any cooler than that? I am having fun just setting up my gun and preparing myself for what to expect in the marsh miles away form the nearest "ANYTHING"!! Just me and 10 quadrillion mosquitoes. Lets hope it is in the 40s or colder during the hunt time. I really don't want to deal with a crazy mosquito nightmare that I know that place could actually be. Baiting is allowed, hunt till 10 pm, I have about 2 miles of my own beach /marsh to hunt. Looks like I can camp on the beach if I want. Looking forward to it,\.

It seems like a cool and unique hunt but like you said hardly anyone has done it. Worst case scenario you should at least find some interesting seashells out on the beach.

Dump some kool-aid on the ground. They love it.

Wife and I stayed at the park in December a couple years back...never did the hunt. We were sleeping and the pigs woke my wife up. BUT...I will tell you this. The mosquito's are not to be underestimated.
I recommend you call the park staff and ask how the mosquito forecast is cause they are brutal. We brought some stuff from a local company called bye-you bug with vanilla and lavender. That stuff kept them things away.
When is the hunt?

I am doing my best to prepare for mosquitoes. I bought a 21 oz bottle of Permethrin to soak all of my hunting clothes in. Tent, back packs, everything will get doused in it. I bought a bug repel face mask from simms and I am about to order a head net from midway. Ive got plenty of butane for my 2 thermacells so i am good to go. May add some type of gloves for hand protection also. Not sure what else I can do beyond that. Mostly praying for cold weather. Mosquitoes really do suck!!
I cant live with a gun that is 1 foot off at 50 yards so I bought a cheap AR12 (made in turkey)just for this hunt. Perfect for my lights and accessories and I bought a 10 round mag also to go with the 5 rounder it comes with. It comes in next week so It should give me plenty of time to get to the range a few times and get this gun broken in. Thinking about putting my 1-8 optic on it. I have a feeling 80 yard shots are going to be the norm during daylight hours so the slugs will be my daytime hunting round while at night I may be able to get much closer. That is when I plan on switching to buckshot.
My goodies are on the way.
This is going to be a fun hunt!
