Last year was bad in September they told me I had to have surgery in October so when it was all over they said no hunting till late December. Ended up at the lease after thanksgiving and although I was miserable got my sausage meat. Enough about last year.
I was looking around the computer today and while I tried food plots for years with limited results, I think most of it was due to the low PH of the hill country. I found out that Whitetail institute and deergro make a product that can be sprayed in the soil the will raise the PH for 3-4 months. I fully realize I have going through withdrawal but has anyone tried this time of stuff and if so how did it work, especially in sandy soil.

What size plot(s)?

I think the size of the plot you're dealing with, or planning has a direct impact on the liquid vs. pelletized lime issue. Liquid is way more expensive than pelletized. It does act faster but is not as long lasting.

Also, except for a very small plot, you will need a bulk sprayer for liquid or a motorized spreader for pellets. Do you have access to either?

If you can't laugh at yourself, give me a call. I'll gladly laugh at you.

Was thinking of doing a small experiment on one or two of my plots with the WI impact this year.

What i do know is when it is a wetter fall my plots do much better. This year the plots suffered but due to lack of rain.

most hill country soils will be HIGH pH though you should always get a soil test for your specific area

most of the hill country is LIMEstone so it will not need lime at all it will need a soil acidifer, but again a soil test will let you know for sure

elemental sulfur will acidify the soil

I quit doing them when the hogs moved in. They rooted it all up.

I realize an older post. But yes I’ve tried the deergro this year. First time to put in food plot on new land - went soybean field and on other plot mix of cowpeas and grain. It worked better than I anticipated as soil needed to have lime, but went with the plot starter.

In a week I had sprouts come up. But not enough rain and the deer devastated my crop.

Will be trying again in a few weeks.

Good luck this year, glad you were able to make it out last year. Similar situation with me 5 yrs ago. Diagnosed with cancer, had surgery after opening weekend and could go back out until end of December.
