Thanks for all the kind words y'all. This is probably the first day the wife and I did not wake up feeling wrecked since losing Dash. I have had over a dozen working hunting dogs of various breeds over the years. Yet for some reason, losing no other dog has hit me as hard as this one. It's been like losing a family member. Not even as much as Blaze. Maybe because she lived 6 years longer than Dash. This is the first time in a very long time I have been without a dog. Dash was so loyal to me, I wanted to wait on finding another so I could devote 100% of my time to him.

I will always have a Vizsla and need to start searching for a new one soon, but we are going to take a short break. I do plan on getting two dogs. Not at the same time, but closer together in age this time. For the second dog perhaps a Pudelpointer as I have been really impressed with them at NAVHDA events. Or could be a Wirehaired Vizsla. I visited breeders as far away as Kansas before, but never pulled the trigger on one. Or could even be a second smooth hair V.

I hope when you are ready, you do get another Vizsla. Just something about the breed, that makes it hard to not have one in the house.
When I was at a seminar in SC, I saw a very nice pup out of Northwood kennels. Mike Northwood had been running him in puppy field trials. Just something to think about, when you start your search.

Shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden.
Experience is what you get, when you didn't get what you wanted.

I've been away from here from a bit. So sorry for your loss. I deal with end of life for pets on a weekly basis. For me the hunting/working dogs are so much harder. I know how deep the bond is with a working dog and I know the hurt from both sides of the exam table. Truly sorry for you loss. Hope you find another one (or two) that can come close to filling the shoes of Dash. If I come across a good litter of Vizlas I'll PM you. I know they're probably not your taste, but if you'd be interested in a lab, I know of some fine puppies available.
