The way I understand it, the baby formula shortage was caused by the government, stockpiling formula for WIC when their previous stockpile was recalled for contamination.

The “no” vote was against a bill that gives government a blank check to buy more formula. How in the hell does letting the government stockpile more formula save us from the shortage?

Great if your poor but what about the silent majority that pays for it with earned wages at the store?

Sounds more like 200 Republicans voted to save our asses.

And why isn’t there any news reporting on this with the facts? I know the media hates Republicans but surely there is someone out there reporting the truth.

This is the first I’ve heard of the WIC stockpile causing the shortage. Any link to articles?

I don’t doubt that at all by the way. Just hadn’t heard it yet.

Link to Tucker Carlson reporting on baby formula shortage:

https://youtu.be/8M9Ack29DCI

The White House buys more baby formula in the USA than anyone. More than Walmart, more than any grocery chain. They did it to us, forced this to happen.

Thanks for the info. We knew of the recalls as our grandson (now 5 mths) was impacted. Didn't realize the shortages we've seen recently were related to our gov't actions but it doesn't surprise me (clown admin). We have been able to help get stocked up on the boy's formula for the time being. Also, we have a grand-daughter due in late Nov. and been thinking of stocking up but it is hard to tell what formula she might be on.

There is plenty at the border. Gotta take care of the illegals first.

The shortage was caused because there are only three major manufacturers of baby formula in the US. The FDA makes it very difficult for someone to startup a baby formula business that does not have the financial backing to do so. Secondly, one of those three manufacturers, Abbott Labs, was forced to shut down one of their facilities because of contamination. There wasn't enough capacity among the other two to take up the slack.

Same reason with high gas prices. We don't have a shortage of oil, we have a shortage of oil refineries. The EPA has basically prevented the building of any new refineries for the last 25 years.

If we have plenty of oil, why would Brandon beg the Saudi's and South America for more? The current Washington climate would never allow another refinery to be built no matter how safe or compliant.

Nobody is reporting on it because it isn't true. WIC doesn't stockpile anything. The program doesn't distribute baby formula. It simply pays for items at the grocery store.

The government caused the shortage because the economic model for WIC grants a monopoly to one baby formula manufacturer in each state. If you don't have that contract, you can't compete. As a result, there is very limited competition in the market and when you stress that market with the same supply chain issues everything else is going through, and then close a huge factory, you get a shortage.

The current shortage is due to panic buying. There is more baby formula being sold in the US every day than before the shortage, but people are panic buying, creating a shortage. It's just like toilet paper in 2020.

According to that link ^ there were two bills, the one that got the “no” vote is the one that gives the government so much buying power.

They do it on both sides, find something really good and use it to push an agenda by attaching something their opponents will vote against. Just in time for elections lol. But it works more in favor of the left, because the left leaning media will beat that dead horse to a pulp.

Left leaning media have been reporting on this and hammering it. Framing it as “republicans stop democrats from ending formula shortage” etc.

You might be surprised how many can’t make enough. My daughter in law has to supplement with formula.

Yup. Many people need formula. I don't understand why this is so hard for some to grasp.

That’s my thoughts as well. Better for the baby, better for the momma, and every god made momma comes with two multi purpose formula generation devices.

Ever since I heard about the "shortage" of formula I glance at the glass case at Walmart to see if there is any in there. I am not joking when I say I have seen no less than 100 cans every time I go in there. Some times its all one type and other times there might be 5 or 6 types but there is ALWAYS a ton of it in there. I am starting to think this "shortage" is really just a shortage of a certain type of formula because there is no way that someone like me that doesnt even need it, can find it every single day of the week. I got a feeling that its kind of like going into Walmart looking for Nabisco crackers but all they have is Great Value. They still have the damn crackers its just not the exact ones you want.

Idk, this seems like fake news. Next we’re gonna be hearing that the govt was hoarding toilet paper which caused the shortage. Then that govt was hoarding vehicles which caused the shortage. Now the govt is hoarding tampons which is causing the current shortage.

Anyone that works in supply chain Ive talked to will tell you its not the govts fault. Its that as Americans we take for granted alot of the conveniences in our lives and we’re always living on the edge of a very fragile and volatile supply chain system.

See the same every time i go and all 3 co-workers i have with newborns no issues finding formula. Now, I havent seen Abbott formula in awhile but we know why. Its just over-hyped, exaggerated news that is scaring moms into hoarding. Same reason why my wife just came home with 1000 tampons - she heard on the news tampons wont be available for next 5 years.
