Based on the condition of many yards in my subdivision, I've come to the conclusion people are taking what they would otherwise spend on watering their lawn and spending it on gas instead. But then, can anyone much blame them when it now costs twice as much for a fill up?

Water conservation. Cheaper to replace sod than wasting water during a drought.

I haven’t changed my watering times, it’s just so damn hot and dry.

Watered lawns become water dependent. Non-wateredawns become drought resistant.

Green lawns in the western half of the US are stupid.

You don't have St Augustine then. One summer will kill it and it takes three to get it back. $100 more per month with expensive water like mine saves $5000 in sod.

WAIT! Sorry. I just realized this is a Texas Dan topic...troll topic...I fell for it.

My $15/month water bill is split evenly among us. 30 two minute showers for me. Half for watering the yard, and the wife spends the other half washing clothes that have been worn for 2 hours, or thrown in the laundry after trying them on and finding they still don't fit (after a 1/2 gal of ice cream!!!

I only wash clothes when I have a full load or run out of clean underwear. In the summer I have been known to grab a bottle of Irish spring and jump in the pool. My daughter did a couple of loads of wash per week and most were small loads. She is someone else's problem now.

Sorry, not in this part of the country, maybe in yours where you get 40-50” of rain a year. We put down 18 pallets of st Augustine in 2000. Didn’t have irrigation system, just sprinkler on hoses. For the next 8 years we had our normal 30” of rain, our yard was green and thick. When the 10 year drought started in 2008, by July of that year you couldn’t put enough water on it to keep it alive. I could run a sprinkler for 2 hours in one spot in the evening, and the next day you couldn’t push your finger into the soil. And the drought conditions continued for the next 10 years. It was like pouring gas on a fire. I never resodded, found better things to spend my money on. I was going to put down a few pallets of zoysia this spring, but with no rain for the previous 6 months, decided not to. Glad I didn’t, because we were put on water restrictions in April. Our water resources are stretched thin in this area, and with more growth, will just get worse.

Better water that yard.
Dirt sucks and sod is expensive.
