So I changed the drive belt on my 2021 Ranger XP1000. I spent 1/2 my time on the one bolt that is on the rear of the clutch cover, bottom, about 3" behind part of the frame. ended up using the supplied tool, loose, and working it with pliers. Gotta be a mechanic on here that knows a better way. Are the flexible socket extensions what I need to buy for the next time?

An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.

Just curious, why are you having to change the belt already.

Good question. No doubt premature. It started making noise as I coasted to a stop, probably just some glazing. I wanted to have look at it since I'm headed to Colorado and will be putting 50 miles or more day on it in the mountains for week. While I went to the trouble to pull it, I replaced it and put the used one in my trail box for spare. It had some ware, but definitely plenty of life in it. That one problem nut, use the supplied tool to get on it, and turn with a screw driver that wedges tightly in the small end. Solved that mystery when I went back to check each screw.

The best way is to not buy a belt driven machine.

Did the dealer mention any belt break in procedures?
Kawasaki has several guidelines for breaking in the drive belts properly.

I know of 2 Honda Talon’s that currently are not shifting gears. Most likely culprit is water in the control box. Neither machine has ever been submerged, most likely happens during a rain storm on the trailer.

I’ll keep the simplicity of my belt driven machine.

I owned three different Polaris buggies - first one was awesome - next one not so much - last one was junk - the belt was always an issue - the body went from steel to plastic - had an issue with the boots and Polaris totally ignored me. Got my nephew (attorney) to send them a letter and they responded in a day. Should not have to go to that extent.

I switched to Kubota and love it -

You can't fix stupid
