For a couple of weeks there were 4 or 5 bucks, some with nice beginner racks, at the power line feeder on the back of the place every evening. Haven’t seen them in a while, but now we have 4 doe at the feeder morning and evening. Where’d the darn bucks go, I wonder. One of them had the beginnings of a very nice set. I suppose they’ll show up again.

Maybe chasing green grass and water. Sure seeing a lot of dead deer on the road, I assume that is what they are doing.

With the drought and the roadside ditches holding what water and green grass there is , and add in cell phone drivers , it is going to be a bad year for road kill .

With this heat the bucks are feeding closer to darkness or at night time. I have seen a lot of persimmons that are just about to ripen in a week to 10 days. Mesquite bean are turning and will be ready soon in our area. Tunas are about to get ripe. Lot of options in a dry and hot time.

See lots of deer here in NB. I see more fawns than I do bucks. I do come in to work at 4 or so each morning, but I am not seeing much in the way of bucks at that time. I have ben pondering this very same thing myself.

How close to your boundary is the power lines? Could it be possible that your neighbors have just started feeding intercepting your bucks?

They just disappear. The first photo of this guy was on 09/30 and the next was not until 11/02.

Our beans fell weeks ago and literally cover the ground under every mesquite tree.
What causes yours to be so far behind ours? Cooler longer there in the hills???

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

I suppose the bucks could be off and eating mesquite beans, but the does are eating corn. As for neighbors feeding, there isn’t much of that going on, if any. Just seemed odd that the bucks wandered off, though I can see that food, or different food, could be the cause.

I've got a feeder slinging corn/soybean mix, and I have a small buck group that visits it. I only have one 'good' buck visiting it regularly even though I know a bunch made it through the season. I'll take my spotting scope in two weeks and see what's happening in a large swale that they like to graze in my neighbor's place this time of year.
