Deer, pronghorn, pigs and most exotics nope not really inside say 300 yards or a bit further. The larger exotics I would prefer more bullet so there the 280AI gets the nod every time IMO.

Exotics can be a lot of big animals so yes. 280 AI is more versatile.

280AI 140 Accubond (if you can find them)…bad medicine. I’d go 20” barrel and suppressed…I’d break it in and cut to 18” if I could keep them above 3k. Second choice would be a 150 scenar.

For you and no longer than you keep them…go 24-26” carbon and suppressed. Most guys want a longer barrel in the 280ai and no reason to kill your resale.

Buzz I’ve been wanting an Alamo Precision Altitude in 7 Mag. Get that so I can pick it up in a few months at a discount.

APR Altitude 280 Ackley

63ish grains of N165 in Peterson brass with a 140gr AccuBond or VLD-H will get you north of 3200fps in a 26" barrel

My dad has a vanguard s2 in a 240 weatherby, it hits deer and hogs like lighting with factory 100 grain nosler partitions. It packs a heck of punch without a lot of recoil.

I’m a weatherby nut but that’s comparing apples to oranges. The .280 is a much more versatile caliber

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I have both. The 280 AI is my go to rifle. I've killed a lot big animals with it.

240 Weatherby great caliber but no comparison to the 280 AI

I shoot a .240 in a Mark V one of my favorite light caliber rifles. Very accurate and fast. Sighted in at 100 yards and a dead hold at 300 yards shooting a 100 gr bullet it hits 6 " low. Very flat shooting and deadly.
Apples to oranges with the. 280 AI comparison.

Get em both up

OK, let me ask this. Can a man shoot a rifle made for a woman if it fits him?

Is think the 270wetherby would be a closer competitor to the 280ai than the 240w.

Buzz doesn’t buy $599 rifles.

And what's the matter with a 7RemMag? I shot a pair of rifles in the same brand and model rifle in 2 calibers for a very long time because the bullet drop was about the same in a 270 in 140gr'ers or 150's depending on game critter & 300WMg in 180's.... real close to the same drop's tween the 270 & 300Wmg out to as far as I wanted to take a quick offhand shot and used the same model scope on both rifles.

For a one gun hunt I used a 7Mag or the 270 depending on ranges & size of game expected or how bad the climb was gonna be . Uh ...Or Just a big case of more simple is more better in my book 'cause it keeps things more simple for off hand super quick no thinking about it rifle shots while walk hunting. The 300 WMg was my answer to heavier game expectations & same song 2nd verse . Never hunted a 338Wmg but loved a CZ 550 in 9.3x62 out to 200+ yards on stout critters.
JMHO and yours may vary.

I'm looking at two specific rifles. Ones in .280AI, the other .240 Weatherby

I still have my trusty ALTUS 6.5 Creedmoor

If you are planning on buying factory ammo for a 240 forget it. They haven’t shipped any in over a year.
