Hey everyone. I’m in the military and just got stationed in Houston. Don’t know the area at all. Can anyone tell me where I can hunt white tail for the season. Thank you!

Public on National forest , otherwise you will need to get on a lease.

Welcome to our forum. Lots of good help on here. Texas is a big place and most of it is not like Houston. Good luck.

An annual permit is required when hunting the Sam Houston National Forest, which is the closest to Houston. However, it's only required when hunting the Alabama Creek WMA in the Davy Crockett NF in East Texas. No permit required in the remaining areas of the Davy Crockett.

I too live in the Houston area and when I moved here in 2003 I hunted in an affordable leased property in Plum Grove area but developers have taken over and destroyed pristine deer habitat. I would not waste my time in this area and I would consider lease operations in Edwards Plateau like Junction or Rocksprings area.

If he is active duty what are his chances of getting on any of the base owned areas near Fort Hood?
