I live in a Coop and am currently shopping for my moms house. Do you choose the best rate or do you choose by the company rating?

The city has a community offer from Texpo. Their CS reviews are all over

What’s the best way to pick one, my first time doing this

I go by price for the most part. I signed a 3 year deal 2 years ago and the company went belly up early this year or late last year. Reliant bought out their contracts and they have to honor it. The city of Fate has been trying to pool people to get a better rate. I signed up one year and then beat the rate on my own so I canceled. Fate is kind of like Ogre. They cater to people that don't want to or don't know how to shop on their own. The way Fate works is you sign up and x days later they lock in the rate. If you don't like it you can cancel.

Price. Be sure to read the Terms of Service and Explanation of Charges. There are some funny rules some companies use. I have had good experiences with Constellation. Gexa used to be good, but then they started adding some surcharges or something on there and I won't be using them ever again. I had used them probably 10 times in 8 years prior without issues. Amigo has been okay, too. Some companies require you to use a credit/debit card for automatic payments for the low rate. I'd try to stay away from those...but I don't like giving my information to companies like that.

At 6.9 I’d throw open the windows and crank up the ac!

That is what I was thinking. My rate is 4.3 cents for the next year. I don't mind giving my credit card for auto billing if I get a lower rate. I put everything but liquor on my rewards card. I average $50 to $60 cash back monthly and never carry a balance.

Yeah, 6.9 for power. Thought that's what some were quoting when I saw 7.5 and 8.9 above.
4.3 is incredible. Do you mind saying who that's with and what the contract terms were?

I'm up for renewal and shopping for a plan right now. Yuck. I use between 1500-1800 kwh per month. The best I'm sewing is .16-.17 for 24 months. I've been at 8.9 for the last year so this is gonna hurt.

Lock it in but make sure the penalty is low enough to get out if rate is somehow lower in the future.

Did you check out powertochoose.org ?

I'm seeing several at 14 cents/kwh.

I just got lucky (I hope). Had a contract with Discount Power last year that ended in August for $0.055 per kwh for the power charge and I just signed with them on a new 36 month contract at $0.118 per kwh. Still slightly more than double, but it looks like it's below market average. Delivery is by TNMP and I think it's 4.something cents per kwh so I'm paying about $0.016 total per kwh.

Paying $0.16/kwh is not lucky at all. I have to renew w/i 3 weeks and I'm seeing plenty of all-in rates right around $0.14/kwh.
