Love the sport. Was listening to an interview with John Force. He's dang crazy. Here are some fun facts about top fuel cars
* One Top Fuel dragster 500 cubic-inch Hemi engine makes more horsepower than the first 4 rows at the Daytona 500.
* Under full throttle, a dragster engine consumes 11.2 gallons of nitro methane per second; a fully loaded 747 consumes jet fuel at the same rate with 25% less energy being produced.
* A stock Dodge Hemi V8 engine cannot produce enough power to merely drive the dragster’s supercharger.
* With 3000 CFM of air being rammed in by the supercharger on overdrive, the fuel mixture is compressed into a near-solid form before ignition. Cylinders run on the verge of hydraulic lock at full throttle.
* At the stoichiometric 1.7:1 air/fuel mixture for nitro methane the flame front temperature measures 7050 degrees F.
* Nitro methane burns yellow. The spectacular white flame seen above the stacks at night is raw burning hydrogen, dissociated from atmospheric water vapor by the searing exhaust gases.
* Dual magnetos supply 44 amps to each spark plug. This is the output of an arc welder in each cylinder.
* Spark plug electrodes are totally consumed during a pass. After 1/2 way, the engine is dieseling from compression plus the glow of exhaust valves at 1400 degrees F. The engine can only be shut down by cutting the fuel flow.
* If spark momentarily fails early in the run, unburned nitro builds up in the affected cylinders and then explodes with sufficient force to blow cylinder heads off the block in pieces or split the block in half.
* Dragsters reach over 300 MPH before you have completed reading this sentence.
* In order to exceed 300 MPH in 4.5 seconds, dragsters must accelerate an average of over 4 G’s. In order to reach 200 MPH well before half-track, the launch acceleration approaches 8 G’s.
native advertising * Top Fuel engines turn approximately 540 revolutions from light to light!
* Including the burnout, the engine must only survive 900 revolutions under load.
* The redline is actually quite high at 9500 RPM.
* THE BOTTOM LINE: Assuming all the equipment is paid off, the crew worked for free, & for once, NOTHING BLOWS UP, each run costs an estimated $1,000 per second.

It is engineering is almost unbelievable and thr engine is disposable.
If the 2nd amendment was written just to include guns for hunting, why is there not an amendment to protect fishing poles?

That top fuel stuff just baffles me. I can’t wrap my head around getting any sort of traction with that kind of power, let alone making that kind of power.

I think that is suspect also. Everything else though I cannot disagree with.

Sneak, go to KSR fab and 1320 video on youtube. Clay Millican let them hang out with them. 1320 scratched the surface and Kevin at KSR really looked into it. Those videos show how they put the power down and the lengths they go through to make a run on any given track. The data they have to have is incredible.

11.2 gallons of fuel per second? Where do they put that 40 gallon tank?

In actuality they use 15-20 gallons of fuel for one run including the warm up and the burn out. They don't burn 11 gallons per second.
Pass the gravy.

I think that is suspect also. Everything else though I cannot disagree with. At 9500 RPMs, the engine rotates 158 times per second. So a 4 second run would be ~632 revolutions, but it's not averaging 9500 RPMS. I can believe 540.

Unbelievable facts you posted OP. But I can read that line much faster than 4 seconds bro! lol
I used to enjoy going to Alamo Dragway when I was young and staying in the pits. The folks we went with raced and usually had a spot towards the end of the 1/4 mile during the Nationals. Loved the sound and vibration the dragsters and funny cars made as they came down the track.
The guys we went with had many drag cars over the years including a dragster than ran about 200 or so and a 1957 that ran high 8s/low 9s. I actually rode with him on the access road of IH10 between SA & Seguin when he went for a test run in it one evening. No passenger seat in it...I tried to just hold on to the roll bars but that didn't work too well. The power of it slammed me back up against the sheet metal where the back seat used to be. Scared the livin' chit out of me! lmao
High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!
