I want a small boat with a long tail motor for me my dog and some gear. Really don’t want another job boat so I was looking at a pintail pirogue. Probably the 14’ model. But not sure if that would be stable enough since it’s not too wide. So let’s hear some ideas. About the perfect boat for what I’m wanting would be a ghenoe but I don’t want a glass boat.

Kinda hard to say bc I dont know what kind of water you'll be running and how far. If you can stay along the bank and in shallow water that will reduce the pucker factor in a small boat. And if something bad happens hopefully your in no more than waste deep water. Any shop or waves in a small rig sure makes you question if a few ducks is worth it.

Countyline boats out of Missouri have always caught my eye. Bandit pirogue are also cool little boats.

Dog will need to be well trained (sit still) if a pirogue is involved. A wider canoe with squared off transom would be my suggestion; easy to handle, light, more stable, easy to repair.

Won’t be planning on crossing any big water. Will be used to get back up in to the shallow water and wooded areas.

How wide is it? Mymoarsh Fatboy DP is 13 foot long, and 44 inches wide. It is very stable JMO. If you remember Rob Robinson on there, he had this exact same rig, and him it was very unstable. But I regged mine differently...First flipped around transom, this moved the motor closer to the middle of the boat, Robs was on the very back. Secondly, I cut about 4 inches off the top of the transom, so this lowered the motor. Both this changes really helped with stability. But I can stand up in this boat, it is very stable...Thinking about selling it, I'm just getting too old for this rig, it sure fun to hunt out of.

I think a jon boat and long tail is more practical, this boat is just more fun to hunt out of, and you do not need to hide it. I do not use it for a layout blind, I use it for a coffee table and dog stand..

if you're referring to a Carson's Pintail, I wouldn't. I had two at one time. They are not at all to take a mud motor. Guy has this figured out to a T.
