About to close on a property that has a "wild" cow on it. The cow converys with the property. No owner , no tags or brands. She is super skitish. Hangs out on the outskirts of the property and the minute she sees a side by side she is gone to another portion of the property. Am I going to have to just process her or could she possible be tamed down enough to one day join another small herd and start producing calves?

Cubes work wonders. Maybe she can learn to associate the side by side with food.
But it may end up being more trouble than it's worth.

You can spend a lot of money on cubes trying but from experience, no she was left there or was stop being looked for for a reason

If not bothering or tearing up anything might be nice just to have around.
If your h#ll bent on catching her you'll have to set up some panels to trap her using cubes or food of some kind. Make sure you have at least 6' panels cause they can jump. The rodeo won't begin till you close her up.
My opinion is once wild always wild.
Good luck and don't get hurt.

Get your other cows, and feed cubes. Get a siren for your side by side. After a couple weeks of feeding hit the siren before feeding cubes. If she joins the herd, great. If she doesn't, make sure you have freezer space and put a bullet in her.

Hire a local cowboy for a couple hundred dollars and have him haul her to the sale barn. I think the last one I hired to bring my bull back was around $150 for about 3 hours of work.

First the sale barn. Then the packing house.

Thank ya'll for the advice. My daughters in-law fell in love with the young cow. Started coming up with names and telling me I better not turn her into burger. She looks young and extremely healthy. food

Experience says she'll be great with other cattle. She can and will teach the others to adopt her behavior. If you're looking for a rodeo every time you work cows, keep her!

This. Used cowboy's horseback a few times when I had my ranchero. Boy's pulled them right into trailer.
Hauled to sale barn. Made a buck or two.

You may be able to settle her down with cubes a little at a time.
But, even if she does tame down some I wouldn't trust her!

If you have a set of pens then my suggestion would be to coax her in to them and load her up and let her be someone elses problem....or potential injuries or worse!
There are plenty of gentle ones out there and I will NEVER put up with one that has even a little bit of stupid in her!

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

Your about to get educated, cows are absolutely stupid animals and when they become skittish like yours is it’s just a matter of time before something bad happens if your around it much. If she’s as bad as you say she would get a bullet or hauled off ASAP.

I agree with thumper. A sure enough crazy one will stir the rest up. As soon as you can pen it, take it to the sale barn.

Still get paid canner prices,

He needs to call sheriff report, and the follow procedures. She going to have a burc tag and still go through brand inspection

With that said cheaper to shoot her, for record not advocating he should, just using as an example of time and investment to properly go through correct channels

As others have said she was left for a reason. Get rid of her.

If you get a "small herd" she's going to end up giving you a small herd just like her. Then you'll be spending $$$ to hire someone to round them up and get them to the sale barn so they can be someone else's problem (again).

Been there done that (not my idea and not my money - it was the state of Texas's money I guess since it was a state univ - so I guess thank you all for contributing to the sale barn cow AI clinic rodeo).
