We find petrified wood regularly at our property in Freestone county but have yet to dig one up that big. I have a few that are about 3' long. Also know where erosion is exposing a few hopefuls, just haven't made the effort to see how much is there yet. Tolerance is the virtue of a man without conviction. Up near Breckenridge. Got out of the car, took about ten steps, reach down and picked it up, outta the sand. My prof. went nuts.. I have done absolutely nothing to it.. It is exactly, as I found it... What you see in the pic, is it's original shell. And it's compound eyes.. Extremely rare... It's about the size of a big thumbnail.. OP. I know how you feel finding something really cool like that...
