After I'd killed three hogs in a row recently, the She-Wolf asked me, "Why isn't one of my rifles out where I can get to it?". It turns out that, "I put 'em up after I cleaned them last" wasn't an acceptable answer...when there's pigs that need killin', the She-Wolf wants equal trigger time! And since she's always been hell-and-death with a rifle, I'm happy to oblige. One of her rigs quickly went back onto the ready rack... Good thing, too. This morning, with more wonderful rain falling, we were enjoying coffee and I was wrangling breakfast. With the bacon done, I'd just cracked the eggs when Jane hollered, "Hogs!" and took off for her rifle. I stepped outside with her and saw a single black shoat across the house pasture fence...and he was joined quickly by two more. Jane slid a round into the chamber and, when the trio stopped milling for a second, let fly. The soggy "whop" of her bullet's impact came back a second later and all three hogs wheeled and took off into the brush headed southwest without a sound. "There's no way I missed" was her only comment as she reloaded and since the shot was just a bit inside 200 yards, I was inclined to agree with her. We enjoyed our breakfast and the slow, soaking rain. By eleven, the skies had lightened and, grabbing a carbine for moral support, I headed down to follow-up her shot. I picked up the tracks of the departing troupe easily enough (there hadn't been THAT kind of rain, sadly) and only made about 70 yards before spotting the shoat down ahead. She'd slipped the 50 grain Ballistic Tip (her coyote ammo) just in front of the point of the shoulder as it quartered toward her, and it had wound up in the engine room. Jane earned her "She-Wolf" nickname many years ago. I see no reason to consider changing it...

Rain and a dead hog. If you had a newborn calf I'd say you should buy a lottery ticket.
I have two unwritten rules: 1. 2.
