Setting up a trip for 2023 and want to hear from people who have been. Lodges, time of year, or anything else you think I might need to know. We're not flying commercial, so that may influence our destination somewhat. Would prefer something in the northern part of the country maybe around Tucuman just to cut flight time and fuel costs.

Never been, all I know is I've been told to expect to spend at least $1,000 to $1,500 a day in shells and you can easily spend twice that if your chasing the 1,000 dove a day.

I used to want to make that trip... these days I'm happy with West Texas and 15 birds a day.

My .02 cents is try to find an outfitter that can mix in something other than doves. I went a few years back and we'd shoot 200-300 dove in the evening and that was plenty for me. What was great was they had pigeon, duck or perdiz hunting in the morning or afternoon so you really got to mix it up. The outfitter I use works with a number of lodges in northern Argentina, feel free to reach out to Martin at martinlinera@gmail.com. Also be careful to vet closely whomever you book with. COVID wasn't kind to a number of lodges in the area, and inflation is hurting them as much as it is us. You don't want to send a 50% down payment and have them close shop on you prior to the hunt. Good luck!

How's your shoulder after 1,000 rounds and do you get tired eating dove? Can you bring the dove back into the US?

Shoulder gets a little tired after 1,000 rounds but its not bad if you are wearing a shooting pad. We didn't eat much dove while there. Maybe an appetizer one night. They cooked awesome meals.

I like June and that way do a mixed bag duck, pigeon, pardee with your dove trip. The dove shooting is fun but can get tiring. Nowadays people are chasing the 1500, 2000 and 2500 dove per day but that you will need a shell handler, gun handler and 2-3 quality guns and water boy because you can be constantly shooting and just have a circular pattern on handing off gun with one hand while accepting a gun with other hand to raise and shoot. Helps to have a sponsor or deep pockets.

Thanks guys. I'm not going with any goal in mind other than having fun. When the opportunity came along to fly in a private jet and skip the commercial airlines, I jumped on it.

I agree with this. I did the “1,000 birds in one day” on the first full day. I even received a plaque. After that, i didn’t care much about shooting that many birds again. We went after decoying pigeons and pointed perdiz. If you’re going, spend a few nights in Buenos Aries. It’s a cool city.

Yep, never been, but heard enough of the same from people that have been that Argentina doesn't interest me anymore. A good Texas hunt is all I need.

Thing is you can't even bring the birds back. Duck hunting in Argentina would be on my bucket list if you could brings your ducks home, they got some cool ducks there I would like to put some on the wall, but you can't even do that, you can only bring a "replica" home, really goofy gov regulations there.

From what I have heard they don't even pick the majority of dove up. If it falls in the brush or hard to reach places they just leave em. If they are in the road or its convenient, they get picked up.

Coyotes gotta eat too. Dove are a nuisance in Argentina, like wild pigs in Texas.. Not sure why they will not let you bring the birds back home, never understood that.

Sierra Brava. A little over an hour north of Córdoba. We prefer June, their winter. Temps range from upper 30’s at daybreak to 80 in the afternoon. Birds are still plentiful. Phenomenal accommodations, staff, food and hunting.

I have been a few times and we did all off the shooting we wanted. Not that mad at them anymore though. Miles & Miles was probably the nicest one and the birds were close to the lodge. Last time we went with Sierra Brava and it was had very nice accomodations also, but the birds were an hour or two drive away. Sierra Brava just opened another lodge south of Buenos Aries and you can shoot doves, ducks and fish out of that one. Doves arent as plentiful, but you should get your fill from what I have heard.

We are heading there in September after having to reschedule twice due to COVID. I missing out on the Red Stag rut and a shot at an importable Mt. Lion due to all the reschedules frown Still pretty excited about going. Its my first time and my Dad is going and he's been 3 or 4 times.

Argentine beef is grass fed if you prefer corn fattened, you might be disappointed. I like both and consider them different red meats.
