Imposing complete discrimination against folks who own personal watercrafts.

How do they get away with this

Buddy of mine Mike lives right next to Canyon Lake, was talking to him on Monday (Memorial day) and asked him why he wasn't on the lake with his jet ski's?
He told me the Corps of Engineers does not allow personal watercraft on the lake on certain holidays and Memorial Day is one of them.
I asked why, he said they deem them to dangerous?? Mike also said that he heard that the corps did not allow them on other lakes too.

To me this is the same BS as with the gun issue, its not the boat, watercraft or gun that is dangerous, it is the person using it!!

he could sue most likely, they are "assuming" he will do something stupid with no basis in fact.

he is also one of the taxpayers that helped pay for canyon and as such should be able to use it when he wants.

It may be because 90% of the people that own them are idiots.

Canyon Lake is not that big, and the majority of jet ski operators are pretty careless. I don’t see a problem.

I have fished extensively on Canyon (lived in New Braunfels for 4 years), and have never heard this. I just looked on the Corps of Engineers website and see no mention of this rule. What is your buddy’s source?

I tried to find a source. Could not.

Spoke to my bud 20 minutes ago and he confirmed that personal watercrafts were banned on Canyon Lake from Friday until Tuesday but was not positive it was the Corps of Engineers.
I did some research and believe it is the actual governing body of the lake and river in Comal county is called WORD = Water Oriented Recreation District of Comal County
Could not find any posted info on the ban, but 100% believe my friend. He sells ATV & Personal Watercraft and his dealership in New Braunsfel was pissed about it.

Water Oriented Recreation District of Comal County (W.O.R.D.) is a park and recreation district created by the Texas Legislature in 1987 and voted for by the residents of Comal County in 1988.

The W.O.R.D. district encompasses Canyon Lake and over 30 miles of floatable water on the Guadalupe River above and below Canyon Lake. It exists within Comal County north of highway 46 to the west beginning at Guadalupe River State Park and runs east to the New Braunfels city limits.

The Austin Police Department Lake Patrol Unit will be enforcing the City Ordinance that prohibits personal watercraft, wet bikes, motorized surfboards, and similar devices. The enforcement will happen on Lake Austin, beginning at sunset on Friday, May 27, 2022, and ending at sunrise on Tuesday, May 31, 2022. As outlined in Ordinance 8-5-81, kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards can still be used along with watercraft designed for the conventional manner of sitting or standing in the vessel.

It is Austin, stuff does not have to make since down there for it to be approved.

Like many things I believe it’s a few who give the rest a bad name.

I’ve fished lakes successfully on holiday weekends. Usually got back in the timber. On the water and at the first spot by daylight then off the water by noon.

Gigantic waves are a bigger safety issue.

I bet the ordinances was created because of the noise they make.

No, it's a holiday weekend and you're much more likely to encounter a jetski-riding moron than one in a regular boat. Jet ski accidents tend to happen much more frequently and at much higher speeds, leading to severe injuries and death. I have a nephew who was riding on a towed inflatable with two other kids and a jet ski rider jumped a wave, hit the inflatable, and killed him.

I don't agree with their ordnance but I see why it was put in place.
