If it's in the book I missed it If I'm invited to hunt at a place with exotics with full permission to take anything, someone was saying that I'll need a license to cover that. ( not a TPWD employee) I was under the impression that a valid resident hunting pretty much covered whatever except for what the tags and stamps are required for
Never heard of an exotic license, resident or otherwise
Is this a bunch of hooey ?

If you take an exotic in Texas, except a feral pig, you're supposed to have a valid (current) hunting license.

Well that was my understanding I've been buying hunting and fishing licenses for many years, and have never heard anything of a separate license for hunting exotic or non game

Is this a bunch of hooey ? You do not need a separate license to hunt exotics. The resident hunting license covers you for that.
Spend time with the ones you love. Time is not guaranteed.

There is no separate license for hunting exotics....it's just the regular hunting license for residents.

Thankfully Texas offers a couple of cheaper licenses for NR to hunt exotics, 5 day NR special and NR special .

The way I understand it is you are required to have a hunting license to hunt anything except a few listed cases. Any legal Texas hunting license covers exotics. Requirements and Exceptions In addition to a hunting license, additional endorsements may be required.
For specific information on Lifetime, Disabled Veteran, Texas resident active duty military, and Combination licenses, view combination hunting and fishing licenses packages.
Information about public hunting opportunities is available, including an interactive map of over 1 million acres of accessible lands.
All laws and regulations governing hunter education requirements still apply.
A hunting license is required of any person (resident or nonresident), of any age, to hunt any animal, bird, frog or turtle in this state, except the following:
coyotes, if the coyotes are attacking, about to attack, or have recently attacked livestock, domestic animals, or fowl. feral hogs on private property with landowner authorization. fur-bearing animals, if the hunter possesses a commercial trapper’s license. depredating fur-bearing animals, if a landowner (resident or non-resident) or landowner’s agent is taking fur-bearing animals causing depredation on the landowner’s land. No portion of the nuisance fur-bearer may be possessed, sold or retained for any purpose. They may be talking about a hunting lease license.

I'm betting when they said "you'll need a license for that" that were talking about a general hunting license. I know folks that show up exotic hunting and didn't know you even needed that "since they weren't deer hunting".
