5 down? That's a solid option on a good gun.

I may have to try one. And I keep hearing great things about your place. May talk Chris into letting me tag along one day to see how the pros shoot.

Not sure what you mean about "5 down".

It's a pretty good range. I would rather it was 2000 yards long, on top of a hill, and significantly west of I-35. But it's what I got for now. wink

Ah. Range envy. If that's not Texan, I don't know what is.

Oh, hold under!

Rarely need to hold under, but I have done it on occasion. Never have needed 5 Mils, more like 2-ish.

Clutter is what the non operator types call that stuff above center rofl wink

Sorry, couldn't resist...

True long range benchrest scopes:
Nightforce Competition 15-55x
Nightforce Benchrest 12-42x
Vortex GoldenEagle 15-60x
March 8-80x
Sightron SIII 12-50x (or something like that)
Khales makes some but I cannot think of the mag range

You get the point...also, another big difference 1/8 MOA turrets.

As I've said before, if we are talking about a static shooting scenario, one known distance, excessive amount of time to get shots off, and tight tolerances from hit or miss (benchrest) then I can completely understand 1/8 MOA being the tool for the job.

In dynamic shooting; multiple target distances, multiple wind angles, short time frame, and many shots fired at those variations in targets, then Mil is the answer. Which is why it is superior for hunting as well, as far as I'm concerned.

I highly doubt bench rest shooters ever make an elevation hold, potentially never make a wind hold, they dial it all. I am speculating here. Hunters, and PRS style shooting, elevation and wind is held, and elevation is dialed and wind held, depending on the course of fire. And the Mil based scope excells at those tasks.

NX8 you mentioned up front is more than up to the task. 7-35 ATACR is better but there's always something better. Go get a ZCO if you want the best but sell your truck to fund it.

There are good reasons most competitive shooters use mils. The odds of MOA being a very, very slight advantage in a 100% static scenario are generally far outweighed by the odds of mils being a significant advantage in almost every other shooting scenario. The advantage for weekend shooters is even more significant than for competition guys who could memorize any chart we gave them with enough practice.

My Delta Stryker 4.5-30 is fantastic. I can easily dial to 25x-27x with amazing clarity. I love the reticle. TMR is awful IMHO. I am one of the few who doesn't care much for the full tree, and I like the mil-C better than the mil-xt.
