bought a new travel trailer for the lease - two questions here:

looked on the underside of my trailer and it has a very heavy duty "mat" the covers the entire underside. Been in STex enough to know pack rats and mice can cause huge issues. Other than the typical poison, traps, etc. should I try to spray foam over my wiring?

second question - I have Direct TV and know you can by a satellite for the lease where I get the same channels as I do at home - suggestions for the best units to buy? Thanks

By those bait houses but make sure it has rat poisoning in it, that will help a lot.

Be sure and put a heavy weight on the bait house or other varmints will drag it away!

Hardware cloth with 1/2" mesh. 'spensive but works. Manual labor involved too.

Don’t use pellet baits. They will carry it off to store it or store it in your trailer. Use the bait houses that take multiple block baits that are secured in the bait house. Don’t put bait inside your trailer.
Be careful when rebating. Spiders and snakes like the bait houses too.
Seal up any openings where plumbing or electric come into the trailer with steel wool.

What I did is I bought a second-hand dish on a tripod (I think it was Craigslist) and just left it at the lease. Whenever I would go to the lease I would take our DirecTV box from the bedroom with me and hook it when I got to the lease. Even though I was in Throckmorton County I still got the local DFW stations too.

I did almost the same thing. I canceled Dish years ago and all they wanted back was the receiver. When Direct jacked their rates I switched back to Dish. I bought a receiver off Craigslist. I got the card numbers from the dude and called Dish to make sure it was not leased. They said is was OK. When I deactivated the receiver they said they were sending me a box to return it. I said wait a minute I own it. After a little bit of a run around they pulled the phone records and confirmed that they said it was not leased.

If you have electricity available google ultrasonic rodent control. I have a 10 X 40 job trailer at the ranch. Never have any issues with mice. No droppings, nothing. Never, ever and have not for years and years. I do not utilize the devices which look like an air freshener. The kind we utilize look more akin to a Bose speaker. Google Loraffe Unde Hood Animal Repellent for an idea. Use this or something similar. After a while, you won't even notice they are there. I have two in my 10X40. Not sure both are necessary, but I do have two.

Also had heck with the darn rats in my Taco. I think the wire sheathing must be made from a rice product. That problem mercifully stopped when I began using that there sonic blaster in the engine compartment. Funny thing is Boobily and many others said these things would not work. Experience has taught me different.

Been through all the moth ball, Irish Spring soap, mint and rat deterrent spray on products. Ultrasonic is my my ranch housing and ranch vehicle American Express. Never leave there without it.

Rat/mice proofing a travel trailer is impossible. Even if you never eat in it, store food in any manner or ever use the plumbing. Then, the remaining basic need of any animal is still present and that is shelter from anything that may want to eat them.

I hate to be a downer, but that has been my experience with the five or so I have owned over the last 35 years. My best rat free experience has been my current set up, a small one man bunk house that I built myself and can haul on a trailer. I apply back packing practices: Never eat or store food in it. Not even an empty wrapper in the pocket of your pants.

For tv, If you have good cell service, get a Roku stick and hot spot from your phone.

An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.

I don't think you can mouse proof a TT either. I bought a WellsCargo trailer and had it insulated, windows installed. Had it for 4 years now and never a mouse and I leave it at the deer lease. Had very few bugs get in it.

The ultrasonic repellants have worked for us for years. I will say that they won’t necessarily get rid of them once they are there but have worked great in keeping them from getting in if used up front. Put one under the sink and one in the living area. As others have mentioned leave zero food in when you aren’t there.

Had a trailer at the lease for years and mice still show up from time to time. Have put wire mesh in all areas under the trailer where possible. Did use spray foam as well around spring shackles and any other place that may be open. Keep 2 traps in trailer most of the time. Might go 2-3 months with no mice then one will show up. Have not used the ultra-sonic Hud mentioned. Need to check into that.
Have dish and have permanent sat. dish mounted nearby. Used a receiver from the house for a while but eventually bought a receiver that enabled us to watch different TV in different rooms. Eventually dish replaced that receiver with a new one no charge.

Yep, I've still got my TT but spend all my time in my container camp. Very few bugs, No rodents. Still a work in progress but getting there.

As far as TV, Can't help you there. Absolutely last thing I want at camp.

The move from Asherton to Rocksprings was this past Tuesday. The new place has an old gas well pad so a level location was already in place. Wish I had been there to see it all. Instant accommodations.

I have friends that own a large motor home and they use a product called Cabin Fresh. They say it works real well.

Ultrasonic Pest Repeller`s worked great when my camper used to stay at our lease. Put out 5 or 6 and then put down 4 or 5 glue traps and leave out when no one is using the camper.

I have a mobile home on my rural property South of Bowie. I’ve tried everything with neither luck nor skill. Now, I just keep it loaded with poison.

Never seen a container with doors on the long side. Interesting.

We keep our TT stored in our shop and other than keeping food out of it, and keeping it clean, we've basically coated the shop floor with mouse/rat bait blocks. Over time, it has absolutely knocked down the rodent population. We rarely have any issues.

Buddy has them in one of his ranch houses in Mason. They work semi but not 100%. He still catches a bunch on glue traps

For those who use the Ultrasonic Mouse repellant in trailers at the lease etc. How long do they last 6 weeks or 6 months?
Thanks
