My truck holds 25 gallons, at $4 a gallon, that's $100 to fill it. For that I get about 450 miles. Soooo if I had an electric truck ( Ford now makes them) -- what would the electricity cost to get 450 miles ??? I have NEVER seen any type of info on this subject.

I saw a tic toc video that showed a rapid charge on a Tesla was roughly 9.80$ to get an 80% charge. That 80% was good for 350 miles.

Ford truck is what max range of about 300 miles on a charge so figure that in. Bigger question is what does it cost for a new bank of batteries? Remember the Tesla that was blown up for that reason.

That is one thing I have been interested in, what is the actual life on the batteries and I'm sure the cost is to replace those batteries isn't gonna cheap.

I would think that would greatly affect resale value.

I found this information regarding Tesla batteries. Battery_Info

Tesla battery replacement cost varies depending on the labor and parts needed. Typically, the most basic battery replacement in tesla costs between $13,000 and $14,000. For the Model S premium sedan, replacing a Tesla battery costs around $13,000-$20,000. Model 3 entry-level sedan and Model X premium SUV battery replacement can cost at least $13,000 and $14,000 respectively.

Also, you may have to pay around $20-200 for replacement parts like wiring and connectors. The labor charge may cost you nearly $175 per hour.

According to Tesla, Model X and Model S retain 90 percent capacity even after reaching 200,000 miles. The current battery modules should last 300,000 to 500,000 miles or 1,500 cycles.

I've also heard to expect 17% less range with the AC on. Tesla disputes that, so who knows.

My brother in CA said his cost to charge his ford C-max would get about 45-50 miles on a charge and then turn to gas. His job was about that far, so he could plug in at work, and get a full charge over the day, for about the cost of what his gas would he for that range. It was zero-zero, meaning no option was better. Now at home, he could charge for less cost, so maybe that made driving electric a better option?

Electric is fine, but for my applications it has never made me 100% comfortable. The biggest concern would be what the battery life does with loads in a truck, and i know people who have been stranded by electric cars when the battery life was incorrectly displayed. That is not good and weather in texas doesn’t lend well to excellent predictability for battery life. And then the whole battery replacement….just not the best option for me at this time

At today's gas prices that $15k would only get you about 55,000-65,000 miles of driving in a gas truck...even less if it's a Tundra. grin

When I did the math months ago with as much as I was driving. It was a wash. I was figuring about 15-18/day in charging and was going to have to charge 5-6 days a week to make sure I could get back home. With gas prices now it might be cheaper but there isn’t a single electric car I’d drive. And my commute is no longer 2-300 miles a day either so it’s not even in consideration anymore.

Looks like you didn't include distribution fee. But what really matters is the usage, 255 KW.
How many miles do you drive a month?

How do you get to your $15-18 per day of electricity for charging? In the example above by Chopped54, he's showing $43 for an entire month.

I figured the lights/tools accounted for at least that much. We bought it in August of last year and has 10,764 on it right now, so whatever that breaks down too.....

Don't forget that currently our legislators don't charge a road tax on electric cars. It won't be long that they will wake up and figure out a way to get the electric vehicles to help pay their share of road and bridge usage and maintenance, like we do for gas and diesel vehicles.

An educated guess...

40amps X 240 volts x 8 hours = 76.8 kWh x 17 cents per kWh = $13.06

Finding a place to recharge and twiddle your thumbs for eight hours is another matter.

Based on info from net.

Ford Lightning comes with a 100KW, 230 mile range, and an optional 131KW , 320 mile range, battery. Remember you cant run them dead, just like you can't run a fuel tank empty.
Miles per watt is simular to miles per gallon, at least my brain. Seems like no one mentions this in thier specs. Much like in the 70s, MPG was low, Carter awarded us with odd/even day gas lines, so car manufacturers advertised cruising ranges.

230 miles per 100KW = 230/100= 2.3 miles per 1 KW of power. At $0.10 per KW. Cost per mile would be $0.044 or about a nickel per mile in electricty. 100 mile commute would cost about 5 bucks.

But, this is without road use tax. Road use tax in Texas is 39.5 cents per gallon. There will be an annual EV fee coming. Texas is estmating $200 to $400 per year. I read some as high as $1000.

As with MPG, actual cost depends on size of EV. Cant compare a F150 to a .Mini Cooper.

Here's a fairly recent article on that topic…

It has been true for years: Mile for mile, it’s cheaper — generally much cheaper — to recharge an electric vehicle than it is to refuel one with an internal-combustion engine.

Does that $.10 per kWh include the transmission and power generation cost?

Well lets compare this method. Looks very close.

100KW x $0.10 = $10.00. Or 130 KW x .10 = $13.00 And neither of methods include loss through the charger.

Not sure about hidden cost such as up front vehicle cost or maintance incuding battery disposal.

And those mileage specs probably do not include AC running, nav draining some battery, and headlights. Add in some load (i.e. more than one person in the car) and that mileage estimate goes down. Have that lightning with 20 sacks of feed or corn and its mileage goes further down, pulling trailer even more.

Point being, the costs are not the reason people buy these cars, and the govt is going to find way to make the costs not the reason if gas stays high. People buy these cars because they either fit their lifestyle, want to be hip, or are passionately ignorant about the environment. The costs are never part of the equation (at least for the folks i know rhat have ev’s)

The cost is a factor, but the biggest factors for me would be range, finding charging stations where I am going, and time to charge. When they can get the range up closer to around 600 miles (that's what my current F150 with a 36 gallon tank gets me), have charging stations where I am going, and have Charge times down to a reasonable time (8 hours isn't reasonable), then charging cost wouldn't even come into consideration.
