Can anyone give a recommendation for good hunting scope that won't break the bank. So many options.

My favorite scope, which I have 2 of, is the Leupold VX5 3-15 CDS with Firedot. That’s about $1k. For about half that, I have an Athlon Midas 2.5-15 with an illuminated reticle. I like it a lot, and so does my grandson. And a Leupold VX3 4.5-14 is a good scope, and now they have it in a Twilight Hunter version, with a Firedot, I think.

I'd go Leupold VX3-HD if you didn't want to pay extra for the VX5.

I am far from an expert but I have spent a lot of money the past couple years buying and selling scopes finding what is best for me.

Before you even begin to think about brand you need to decide what magnification you want. More is not always better. More magnification usually means a heavier scope as does larger objectives. When I was looking at scopes I was like why on earth would I want a 3-9x40 when I can get a 3-18x50? I bought the higher powered scope and my rifle became like lugging a bowling ball around. If all you do is hunt out of a blind it might not matter much but if you do much walking it will. My favorite scope for hunting is a 3-9x40 trijicon accupower. It has a green dot illuminated by the sun so no batteries, and it weighs 13.7 ounces. I like it so much I now own four of them. I have a Nightforce ATACR and a leupold vx6hd and for the hunting I do I prefer the trijicon. They are $640.

I’ve come to the same conclusion. I have 3 of the Trijicon Accupowers 3-9x40. I went with their mil square reticle in case I need to hold for elevation.

Midway has the 3-15 Firedot for $1099, with a $250 gift card back to you.

I wanted to spend $600.00 or less when I put my 6.5 Creedmoor together and am really happy with the Burris Signature HD in 3-15 x44. I have two Leupold VX5 HD's in 3-15 also, but don't always want to drop that kind of coin. [Linked Image]
