Almost stepped on this guy last night, looked around for pics of snakes in Central Texas, but found no exact match

Western rat snake

To be sure of hitting the target, shoot first and call whatever you hit the target.

Thanks for the reply, I was kind of thinking a rat snake but never found any pictures that matched it exactly to my untrained eye.

I moved him from our front yard to behind the fence in our backyard. Nothing but woods back there, so have had to move other snakes like racers and king snakes. Haven't seen one of these before. The only snakes I have killed are rattlesnakes, don't need those in my yard to put my wife or kids at risk.

I am Anti-not having enough cannabis..... haha

Actually, I was diagnosed with Leukemia almost two years ago and it is one of the few things that makes me feel better at times. I refuse to take the opioids they threw at me.

Being it was at night and you almost stepped on it makes is a "pants wetter" snake. LOL
I agree on the rat snake, it does lots of good in controlling vermin, it's a good snake.

Those things show up in the darndest places...I've found them in chairs I have sat in (dark material so well camouflaged), in garages reaching for tools and stretched out above my front door. Good snake to have if there is such a thing but will cause the old ticker to miss a beat or two.

Yea they do. Found one in our humidity controlled storage room in the shop last year. When you don't see them until they are a few inches from your hand, It tends to jump start your blood pressure!

Worst snake to have around if you hunt birds. I bet I’ve killed a hundred of them this year.

The snake in your picture is a juvenile which is why you could not match pictures. Glad it lived for another day

Seems like most of the rat snakes I've tried to help out by relocating were orney mofo's. Always trying to bite me.

Yup

They tend to have a bit of an attitude. All get a pass at our place unless they get into my wife's hen coop. At that point they get relocated permanently to snake heaven

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

I don't move them where they have the opportunity to bite me.

Most startling encounter was one in my shop, that came in overnight. He met me stretched out at eye level to me the next morning. 6 foot or more and full of mice. I said "hey dude, don't surprise me and I won't surprise you". I guess he understood, I haven't seen him in 5 years.
