When going through all the lines at the airport, is a Passport all that is needed, or do you have to keep pulling out your TDL every time?

if you're going outside of US territories, you'll need a passport. If you're inside the US, either a passport or a driver's license will do.

For domestic travel, if you don't have a TDL with a gold star on it then you have to use your passport for security.

To be determined

There are other Government issued ID's, that satisfy the real ID requirement, like Military ID cards. I never bothered with the enhanced drivers license because I have a retired ID.

Going to Florida

Any advice how to pack liquids?

Haven't flown in years and never pay attention to TSA stuff

If you’re flying direct, just check a bag and put your liquids in a gallon ziplock just in case they leak. Airlines have gotten a lot better about tracking bags, so they don’t get lost near as often.

Carry on is nice in theory, but having to jockey for boarding position just to secure an overhead bin close to your seat can be a pain in the [censored] even with status. I prefer to carry less through the terminal (single carry on that fits under seat) and take my sweet time boarding.

Look on the airline website. Have fun in that swamp they call a state.

You are allowed to bring a quart-sized bag of liquids, aerosols, gels, creams and pastes in your carry-on bag and through the checkpoint. These are limited to travel-sized containers that are 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) or less per item. Otherwise, you need to check liquids. I almost always prefer to carry-on, even on AA and United where I am allowed a free checked bag. Lately it takes too long for the bags to come out on the belt and most people will have to pay at least $60 RT for a checked bag unless flying SWA.

After flying a couple times this year, I have noticed that there is a high probability of "free - courtesy check" of what would be your carry on if flight is crowded.

So maybe plan to "carry on" but maybe take advantage of courtesy check if offered, especially if flight is nonstop. Avoid the fight for cabin storage.

We are flying nonstop to Florida soon. I just plan on packing me and the kids in 1 big suitcase and checking it. I have a travel kit with all of the small containers for shaving, etc. Make life easy.

Also, get the TSA Precheck if you can. It does make your trip easier when going through security, especially if you have little ones.

For someone not versed in travelling much, just take a checked bag and call it good. Yes you will wait a little after the flight, but the hassle of knowing how much and what size of carry on liquids and gels is daunting for the inexperienced traveler. Check it and forget it. take as much liquid as you want in a checked bag.

For the seasoned traveler, TSA pre-check is a must. Allows shoes and belts to stay on and computers stay in bags (for the most part). The ease of TSA pre-check is a huge frustration saver for people who travel often.

Also, be aware Orlando airport typically has terribly long tsa lines if you are traveling thru Orlando. Being such a tourist stop, the airport traffic is usually bad. Not sure if that applies to anyone in this thread tho

If you're consideringTSA PreCheck, might as well go with Global Entry for $3 more per year, which includes TSA PreCheck. Many higher end credit cards cover the $100 application fee, too.

True, but tsa precheck is a lot faster to get processed. I applied for global entry several months ago and still have not received my prelim approval to schedule my interview. My wife got hers the same night we applied. Weird. One of my employees said her husband got his 2 years after she did. At least with TSa precheck the timing is much faster. But agree, global entry is where its at.

It's almost impossible to get interviews for global entry right now. I have been trying for months for my kids and there is nothing coming up. We are just going to have to do an interview on arrival.

I guess it's juts the initial applications that are taking a long time. I've had GE for almost 5 years and had to renew last fall. The renewal was incredibly fast, less than 1 week.

Renewal is much easier.

At DFW airport you if have TSA precheck the lines doesn't open up until 4 am at the E Terminal

I did notice that the other line opened up at 3:45 am for anyone, and people using clear entry getting in fastest and earliest

I’ve been considering tsa precheck. But last two times at airport has been a breeze with virtually no
Line going or coming back through customs.

TSA pre check has nothing to do with customs. Do you mean Global Entry?

Tsa precheck for leaving and global for returning. No lines either way.
