In a lightweight bolt gun for mid-range deer sized game hunting. Anyone mess with this caliber in a bolt action rifle?

It's that dang special bolt face size, that makes it a challenge to get in a bolt action. It's pretty salty in an AR. I think in a bolt gun it would be extremely fun, and extremely capable.

JTAC makes one, they make little tiny chassis "pistols" (they are short) based on the Howa mini action, and I am pretty certain you can get it in 6mm ARC

I don't see the attraction in a bolt gun. Just build a .22 Creed (oh, wait), 6mm Creed, or even a .243 or 6.5 CM and have a much more capable weapon.

Buzz, in a bolt gun, I think it would be a great hunting rifle set up. I went with a 224 Valkrie bolt gun and I love it. I've taken it out to 900 yards with the 75 grain ELD-M, and now I'm shooting the 55 grain Lehigh Controlled Chaos bullet at 3100+ fps for coyotes/pigs. It's a fun bolt gun to shoot. The 6 ARC would be similar. Push an 87 grain about 3000 fps or a 105 grain about 2850 fps. It would be a good one.

The 6 ARC, like the 224 Valkrie, is based on a much shorter cartridge that fits in a 223 action, not the standard short action. Comparing a 6 ARC to the larger 22 CM, 6CM and such isn't an even comparison. I've always been a fan of a lot of the smaller cartridges, like the 300 blk out, for hunting. I've played with the Valkrie a lot lately, and liking even more. With the right bullets, they work very well.

I have a 6.5 grendel bolt gun and I freaking love it. I don't really hunt much but i did build it to do that as well in theory.

Not sure about the compatibility going from grendel to arc, but it is something that would be cool.

I went the route of rebarreling a CZ527 in 7.62X39 for a Grendel. Worked out very well and is about all I hunt with these days. That could easily be done or a Howa Mini to 6mmARC., There are also some mini-mauser in 7.62X39, do not know of any that have done it but the Ruger Ranch is another.

Buzz you can find out some opinions from some that have done that over on https://6mmarc.com.
Any of the PPC bolt faces will work. If you want a Remington 700 in it you can get a bolt from Pacific tool and gauge.

With a standard short action you could throat it so those long pills can be seated out further.

Does this mean you are not switching to shotguns.

All this is, is a 6ppc with a fast twist barrel..
You already have a 6 br, just build one in a hunting gun, use a regular floor plate, don’t do the detachable mag.

I shot a prs match last year with Wade Stuteville and he was running a 6 arc in a bolt gun. It's basically the poor man's br. He was running 108 or 105 at basically the same speed as the guys running br or br-ackley but his brass was just hornady Grendel necked down.

It would be cool. I have 6.8 spc bolt and it’s a joy to shoot and a good hunting rifle.

And because it was Wade, he probably beat the pants off a whole lot of shooters with it.

For hunting deer at medium range, I’d just pick up a Grendel. There are a few off the shelf options. Gun Broker even has the Howa carbon model that weighs only 4.5 lbs.

One of the big complaints about the Howa is the mag, mag release and bottom plastic. There is at least one source for Remington 700 type bottom metal, trigger guard and floor plate for the Howa Mini

We now have three (3) quality solutions to Howa's plastic trigger guard.

The first is simply a quality metal replacement of OEM plastic trigger guard and continues to use OEM magazines.
http://www.diproductsinc.com/Search.aspx?TERM=howa

The other two (2) are designed with an internal/blind magazine that eliminates the external plastic OEM magazine (critical design failure).

Both the replacement bottom metal / internal magazines from Oregunsmithing and Hokey (Jefferson Outdoors) are approximately the same price and similar quality construction.

I like the looks of the Oregon gunsmithing one best I think. If I get a Howa it will get one of those 4 round 700 BDL type internal mag with follower setup for feeding the short stubbier Grendel cartridges. Pretty sure they were the first to the market with it and built the first one getting the kinks ironed out on one for their won gun

These also let you load longer than the factory Howa mags and longer than the CZ mags do. Max COAL of 2.4+ inches gets you over .1 inch longer COAL than an AR mag will allow allowing to seat closer or into the lands and more powder room for reloads
