One thing that I’ve found is that shotguns that feel great to me shouldered and seem to “fit” doesn’t necessarily translate to hitting clays. I have a Beretta that feels like it was made for me. Swings naturally and just fits. I dont really shoot it that well. Meanwhile, I have a Browning that feels like Im holding an awkward piece of lumber and I hate it. I shoot lights out with it. Dont know how to explain it.

Oh, another simple thing i figured out. I shoot better with a fiber optic sight BUT only green. Hand me a gun with a red or orange sight and I cant hit chit.

So, I love shooting rifles but I'm better with a shotgun. Thinking about selling my 6mmBR and buying a sporting, higher grade O/U and shoot more clays.
shorter drive to shoot
Looking at the Benelli 828 Sport, it just fits me good. But , very expensive. Checked with Robert Paxton, his stuff is TOO high grade.
Just looking at options So, I only know you from this site so maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like you want to change guns all the time. If you want to get good with a rifle you're going to need a stick with rifle for a while, and I mean a rifle, not all rifles. If you want to shoot shotguns well, but a shotgun that fits and shoot it, and quit looking for the next best thing. If you want to shoot pistols well then buy a pistol and shoot it and quit looking for the next best thing. All the money you would spend on some other gun spend on practice ammo, maybe lessons (like I said, I don't know you so maybe you've had a lot of lessons), matches, and range time in general. That's my advice. I've seen tons of people waste huge amounts of money on different guns and never get any better at what they're doing, and a few people spend a tremendous amount of money on practice and lessons and get unbelievably better and what they were doing. You just got to figure out which kind of people you are. Good luck

Great advice. He has been given that advice about 30 times over more than ten years. And he still has em built and sells em at a loss almost on a quarterly basis. A.D.D. as bad as it gets.

Yep, for Buzz it's the thrill of something new. I wonder how many shots of Penicillin he's had over his 70 years from, something new.

Enjoy shooting a Beretta A400 much more than an O/U for sporting clays. Much easier on the shoulder as well.
Buy a good shotgun and get it professionally fitted to you if you’re really serious.
To be determined

The Berreta Autos, I don't care for. I do like their mid-grade O/U's 694, etc

Call Crocker Fine guns in Austin if you want a nice O/U
August Crocker is a good dude. I sell a TON of sporting shotguns, and I'd likely recommend AGAINST the Benelli 828 Sporting unless you have a chance to test it first with 200 or so rounds in a day. It works fine and shoots pretty well a first, but we've had several traded in by people who shoot clays a lot because it's a little on the abusive side as far as recoil goes. I can throw 150-200 rounds through it OK, but my shoulder is certainly more sensitive after that than it is after using something like a Beretta 694 or a Caesar Guerini sporting gun. Come see me sometime. I've got CG Summits, Beretta 694's and Browning 725s in stock if you want an entry-level into the premium brands, and Rizzini BR110's if you want something that works but isn't as flashy.

I’ve been a rifle guy since I got my first red Ryder, but there’s something to be said about fine scatterguns. All about fit and feel though, I’d try as many as possible before you sell us the first dozen you buy. I’m sure you know, but as bad as rifles can be $ wise, that shotgun rabbit hole goes china.

Buzz the way you and your new rifle performed Saturday I wouldn’t hang it up just yet. You’ve still got some good game in you.

Sporting clays to me is more physical than sitting at a bench, on sand bags, shooting at a fixed target. At worst, you walk, at best you have a side by side, A good sporting o/u will weigh 8 1/2+. Lug that around, with shells for awhile. Not to mention the course fee and shells. With that said, I say, do both.
