We had a recent work day at our Mills County lease, mainly to redo the cabin deck. The idea was to beat the heat (did not work). It got done. I did get a chance to do some fishing in our only tank that has not dried up. I caught some bass, and nice sized sunfish. Our lease is still very much in need of rain. The Summer can get busy. Now is a great time to do some projects, if needed.

I just need to drag one feeder I keep going a few yards 'cause, with this drought, the deer just stand around and wait for it to go off and the area is a disgusting poop pile. A TPWD biologist told me I need to do that with all of them, but I've never seen it this bad.

Did just the same -- fixed fences/put up a new one/did some welding. It's only going to get hotter and now's the time to get it done.

To 68rustbucket. We talked to the goat rancher, who said the rain missed us. I looked at the radar late last evening (Friday) and it appeared we got some rain. I really hope so.

Gonna build a new section of fence, clear under brush from the oak motts and hopefully get some rain so I can burn thr large cedar piles I have everywhere now
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

You can set up a free account with Farmlogs and get emails when there's measurable rain on your properties. They're pretty darn accurate.

Getting a fresh coat of paint in a camo pattern on one of my three-piece ladder stands and a tripod. I have four of these smaller ladder stands that are no longer available and keeping paint on them has really made them last. They're relatively easy to carry and make for great mid-season setups when the deer appear to be frequenting a given travel route. I started putting a camo pattern on them when I used them on public land and didn't want them to stick out like a sore thumb. Just kept doing it even though it's been years since any of them has seen public land.
