In the first week or so after retirement how many of you still felt the pull to get up at the same time every morning or steer in the direction of work when out and about?

Absolutely, positively, never. And I liked my job.

I will most likely have the desire to steer towards work until I can no longer hut or fish. I have to go to the guard shack and turn in my retiree pass to get a key to the gate to the hunting area or lake owned by the place I retired from. But I will say it is nice to sometimes be the only person in the woods or fishing.
I still see folks driving in to go to work and they ask me if I am ready to come back. I point at the boat and answer a resounding NO, retirement is great.

5 days into a 6 day trip to Salida Colo to watch my Son run a mountain trail marathon. No rush to get back so sitting down to eat in Clayton NM at Wild Horse Steakhouse. Retired life is good.

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

When you ask your buddies to do something "spur of the moment" and they tell you, "I can't, have to work", LOL. Conversely, you know you're working when you ask your retired buddy to go golfing on the weekend and he tells you, "I've been golfing all week already", LOL...

Freerange - we are planning a trip to Colorado for late July - we have been to most all of the fun towns so looking for something new - we plan to drive - did Durango last year - may go to Telluride or Crested Butte - not many bad places in Colorado for sure
hope you enjoyed your trip

Tlk look at Lake Valiecito just north of Bayfield Co. Half way between Durango and Pagaso Springs. There is also a small casino about 30 miles south of there in NM. Lots of great cabins and good places to eat on the lake.

Done Crested twice now in the summer. Beautiful place.

If you do go there, get a reservation (in advance) at "Sunflower" and say you want the chef's tasting - and just keep letting you bring food out until you get full. Also, they have a private room up top that has a 2 top and a 4 top. If you can get one of those (especially the 4 top), I highly recommend it. Private rom basically. They have some wild game on occasional on the menu, and the chefs there are phenomenal. Made the Top 5 meals I've ever had in my life, and I've been lucky to have that be a competitive list. Also, I'm not a drinker anymore, but my wife and friends asked for the chef's wine pairings for each entree, and they were all top notch. About 50% of the folks (mainly locals) go in and just ask for whatever the chef recommends. All winners. Secret Stash is a fan favorite for pizzas there. Niky's mini donuts is a cool spot to visit if you have a sweet tooth. Camp 4 Coffee is solid coffee shop, with their own roasts. Buddy always brings me back some. Quality. Lake Irwin was a cool place to throw a line in the water and Irwin Brewing company is a well liked local brewery. Went fly fishing and have some suggestions for good guides, if you plan to do that. Also did a rafting trip with the fam at Three Rivers Resort/Outfitters in Gunnison. They do a good job.

I can recommend Lake City, CO, home of famous 1860s cannibal, Edward Packer. They have a festival every Summer in Mr. Packer's honor with some really cool t-shirts as you can imagine. Got one 30 years ago, "I ate Till I couldn't anymore just like Edward", LOL....Good lake fishing and very scenic around there.
