The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) is asking Texans to conserve electricity between the hours of 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. throughout the weekend as it deals with power generating issues.

“This afternoon, six power generation facilities tripped offline due to mechanical issues resulting in the loss of approximately 2,900 MW of electricity. At this time, all reserve generation resources available are operating,” said ERCOT Interim CEO Brad Jones on Friday.

“With unseasonably hot weather driving record demand across Texas, ERCOT continues to work closely with the power industry to make sure Texans have the power they need,” Jones said.

ERCOT wants Texans to conserve power by setting thermostats to 78-degrees or above and avoid the usage of large appliances like dishwashers, washers, and dryers during peak hours the weekend of May 13-15.

I'm not doing 78 degrees. Usually 75 during the day and 73 at night. It's 74 right now because I was working in a hot garage all afternoon.

What are they going to do when we get more plug in cars?

78° is pretty dang warm in my house. It starts becoming uncomfortable above 74°. And takes much longer to cool it down at night.

We need more windmills

Coal. Natural Gas. Nuclear.

And the Californians keep moving here with their electric cars!

This has been building for years and It is going to get worse soon, If you cannot see that, you are not paying attention. Be smart and be ready.

Maybe put a windmill on top of their EV.

For decades, every Texan it seems, saw this coming.
And also, knew the answer. Yet our leaders here in Texas, Demo and Rep. are now asking us to suffer
through, their mis-management.
Two things, I've said, since the 70's. The only thing to keep Texas from growing,
is power and water. And now we have neither. If I knew it in the 70's. Why the hell
didn't they ? We should have been building lakes, and reservoirs across the state. And used
them as cooling water for nuclear power plants. Just like Comahche Peak. It was the perfect
model. Now look, at the crap storm, we're facing, because of their ineptness... It makes me
sick... The only model our Texas leaders follow now. Is the model of self interest...
And you may even reference, tax reform... I don't know about ya'll, but between the air head in DC
and the fools leading Texas... I've just about, run out of patience.....

Our thermostat stays on 68 and they can kiss my chops, I’m waiting on the 3500 acre solar farm to go in down the road so it’ll fix our problems said no one ever.
