Anyone else have any recommendations for good eats in Stephenville or surrounding towns? No preference of Mexican, Southern, American, etc. just good eats. Will be a Sat.

Funny you should ask. We were over there yesterday for a funeral and I was on the computer looking for a lunch place before the service and stumbled on to Big O's Simply Delicious. It was BY FAR the best first impression of a place to eat I have had in many years!! Everything we tried was outstanding and Big O the owner was a hoot to visit with. It is right down the street from Tarleton State. Breakfast and lunch only. cheers

Google rating of 4.8 out of 5, pretty strong. Anyone else with a suggestion??

Say what you like, but a medium temperature queso burger with jalapenos is one of the best things I've ever had. The Stephenville location is better than the Granbury location in my opinion.

Jake’s is your spot. Man, I miss it. When I get the opportunity to go visit family, I’ll eat there atleast 2 times in 3 day. Montana’s used to be excellent, I hear it is hit or miss now. Mi Familia is always good.

Last 2 spots are good, but mentioned because they have good beer.

There's a food trailer around Stephenville. Can't remember the guys name Mark maybe. Anyways dang good burger and excellent onion rings. Brick and mortar Grumps is a solid burger as well. Season and cooked on a griddle. wrapped in paper. Cold schooners, peanuts and several sides. Hard 8 is hit and miss and so is Jake and Dorthys for me.

Did the university trip to Tarleton State today and we ended up having the CFS, mashed potatoes and side salads at Jake and Dorothy's Cafe. Overall, I'd give it a 3.5/3.75 out of 5 star rating. CFS were nice pounded out round steaks with medium, not overwhelming crust. The mashed potatoes were tasty and homemade, no instant potatoes there. The cream gravy was under the steaks not on top which was a first for me but nice change. The salads were just OK. Overall we enjoyed the meals and hospitality at Jake and Dorothy's Cafe as well as visiting Tarleton State for the very first time. Will definitely be on my daughter's list of colleges to consider.

Several other good places to eat, including the best ribeye I’ve ever had at a restaurant.

Ruby’s Texas Bistro. It’s right off the square.

I have not been in a couple of years, but it was excellent. I’ve probably been 4 or 5 times spaced out over a 2 to 3 year period, and it was great every time.

I'll add it to my list as well. Hoping to make another trip out that way at some point.
