Seems to have slipped in popularity and the Grendel has overtaken it.

Well am I right or wrong? Thinking about putting together a 6.8 upper.

Its a ammo supply issue. I have not seen a box of 6.8 on the shelves in about a year now.

I haven't seen very many boxes of Grendel either.

If it were called a .264, .260, or 26 Grendel then nobody but enthusiasts would even know it exists. I'm not talking bad about the cartridge at all, I made my choice between the two and am sure I wouldn't have regretted choosing the other one bit. But let's face it, cartridges like these, including the 300blackout and other AR compatible non-5.56 rounds, are typically utilized by a much smaller portion of the shooting world. With the marketing campaign the Creedmore has seen if you put 6.5 in front of anything and it's going to be an eye catcher.

Not with me. I have built 3, still have two and plenty of components for loading. I don't have anything against the Grendel, just liked the 6.8 better. Finding factory ammo has been pretty challenging for about every caliber for a while now.

Didn't the 6.5MM Grendel come before the CM?

OP, I have both and to me, the Grendel is more appealing. It can do what the 6.8 does at short range but leaves it behind at long range. I still love my 6.8 and use it exclusively for hog disposal. As you pointed out, ammo for both is scarce.

I would like to say it’s as popular as it was 10 years ago, but frankly, it’s not. I haven’t shot my 6.8 in years even though it used to be one of my favorite hunting rifles.

For about 2 years you couldn’t hardly get ammo for it

I have just saw it popping up over the last few months though

I hate the 6.5 Grendel, because of the short cases are a pain in the azz to deal with. Guess I'm getting older, and my hands don't work like they used too. Same thing with 300blk. Although I do reload them on occasion for a friend to keep him in enough hunting ammo so he didn't have to stop using his 6,5 Grendel for pig hunting. As for the 6.8 I use it mainly for pig hunting. Lucky for me I bought 9k of the bulk 90gr Gold Dots when RMR and Midway were selling them cheap. I stocked up 3k each of the regular Speer 90gr and 115gr, Gold Dots, plus 3k of the 120gr SSt's just in case the election went bad. Few lucky primer trades with Chad has kept me in primers. With powder I have been lucky enough to find enough at powder valley to keep me going whenever I get down to my last 8lb jug of AA220 powder. Works great for killing pigs at night as does the Grendel. My advice is buy/build whet you can get ammo/components for. I'm down to 5k of all my bullets combined and haven't been able to acquire more, but I haven't been looking that hard either.

I don't buy or shoot factory ammo, so that never factors into it for me. I've got plenty of 6.8 ammo loaded up, along with 1k bullets setting on the shelf ready to be loaded.

It’s popular at my house and my buddy just bought a LWRC in 6.8. None of these newer AR cartridges retain popularity for very long. 6.8 spc is good hunting round in shorter barrels.

I'm building another 6.8 upper so I can have dedicated optics hosts. Each of these cartridges is a personal preference. The new hotness will undoubtibly be the 6.8x51 or whatever Sig sold to the military

At $30 a box of 6.8 120 SST, it's significantly cheaper than using a 308 and works just as well for the guys I hunt with

I just bought my second. I don’t worry about what other people do.

It's not going anywhere. Ammo is hard to find = people are buying it up, which means they have 6.8 rifles. I found Hornady 120SSTs for $30 and bought some. It's not the $16 I paid for the Fed Fusion 115gr I was running but those days are gone for awhile.

Currently in the market for another 6.8.

Glad you're not overpaying for ammo either. There is a listing in the classifieds that is highway robbery
