So, I love shooting rifles but I'm better with a shotgun. Thinking about selling my 6mmBR and buying a sporting, higher grade O/U and shoot more clays.

shorter drive to shoot

Looking at the Benelli 828 Sport, it just fits me good. But , very expensive. Checked with Robert Paxton, his stuff is TOO high grade.

Just looking at options

The option is don’t miss the match Saturday!!

I say do what you enjoy. If you don’t want to do both then get right shotgun and rock on. I don’t find enough time in the day to do everything I want to do so something has to give. You sir are retired. I look forward to that day.

That 6mm is a thing of beauty. Bring it out Saturday for everyone to fondle.

Call Crocker Fine guns in Austin if you want a nice O/U

I checked on his sight. It seems he has become a huge Yildiz dealer. Didn't have many Sporting Ceasar Guerrini's.

Scheels has a lot of nice O/u's

That's the joy of the shooting sports: there's LOTS of games to play!

I'm always fiddling with something new or something old or something in between. I don't think I've shot a formal round of sporting clays since the '90s, but a buddy and I are gonna do just that next week.

And hey, they'll ALWAYS sell you another rifle! Have FUN!

I struggle with finding the time to do all the things I enjoy as well. Shotguns being one of them I put a good bit of time into. Able ammo In Huntsville has the good stuff if you want to mount some high end over unders…

I don't hardly sell anything anymore. I've found that after some time, my interest goes full circle and I don't like being empty handed. I say keep the BR and get the shotgun as well. Seems I heard a story about you selling a good 223 and then looking for a good 223 after. Slow learner? Bored?

I am stocked up for many years, but I have seen good availability within the last month at Scheels, Cabela's, Academy, and Walmart. Shells are WAY more expensive now than they were a year ago though.

Buzz, go to Scheel’s and handle a few over and under shotguns. They have a bunch of them. I’m betting you can find one that fits you pretty well at a decent price. If you want to get all fancy, buy the one that looks best to you and have it fitted. Those Benelli 828s are very nice, but I couldn’t bring myself to spend the $$ on one. Went with the tried-and-trued Citori instead at less than half the price. I went with the Hunter Grade I, which does not have the pretty wood, but shoots great. Took it to a charity sporting clays event last week and was pleasantly surprised I haven’t lost all my shotgun skills in the last five years of being away from it.

Buzz - from following your post on this forum, I feel like I know you well enough to know that you are not "financially embarrassed"... But with that said, get a dang good grip ahold of your pocket book if you are gonna dive head first in to the shotgun sports.

I love it. Shoot leagues throughout the year, and try to make as many tournaments as possible. It adds up, quick.

As far as guns... heard enough bad about the 828 to stay away from it, even though it felt phenomenal in the gun shop. Not sure, but does Scheels carry Beretta? If so, I would start there and pick up as many Brownings and Berettas as possible. And I think those CG Summits can be had for a little more. EDIT -- Oh, and 30" barrels minimum... Incase you want to sell it smile ani

Best of luck!!

You need to call him. He only advertises a small percentage of his stock.

And those Yildiz Are not the same ones that sell at academy. Wood is fantastic and they are about the same quality as the Caesar’s

What's the best reticle for dove hunting? A scope would help me, a lot.

Best optic for shotgun shooting is young eyes.

Buzz, you have one thing going for you on this and that is you're right handed. All us LH shooters may give you crap about not posting guns for us, but it will be WAY easier to find a shotgun that fits you as a righty. I've been trying to get a new O/U and it's virtually impossible to find LH versions of guns that I want to shoulder.

Similar to others, I say keep your other guns and add on. The winds may shift

Old skewl Mil dot with the .5 Mil hashes.

I have shot movers with a rifle. 340 and 500 yards. Hell of a lot of fun! 2.0 to 3.0 Mil lead.

That's more like a 5 beer lead.

Agree 100%. Us lefties are largely ignored in the gun world. The Citori I bought has a neutral cast and is shootable for a southpaw.

I have a Citori that doesn't fit me and is really expensive to make it fit. Would love to find a O/U that fits from the start.

Great stuff and suggestions guys, thank you.

I do think I get bored

going to get 400 yard zero on the 6br tomorrow so I don't waste my cold bore shot Saturday.

also negotiating on the replacement for the Corvette.

BUT

with the stock market crashing and me being 70. I'm almost tempted to tap the brakes a bit

That sounds fun. I’ve shot skeet in a box canyon with both a 22 lr and an AR. Also a lot of fun.

Buzz, For a guy like you that seems to really enjoy the “deal”, sell it. You will enjoy finding and buying another when you miss it. As for a nice over under for clays: find one that fits well with some nice walnut and shoot the pee out of it. Regarding clays with an 828: I’ve shot clays with one. In my estimation it would have made a fine field gun but beat me up on a clay course. An over under is not gas operated. The better the fit, the more comfortable they are to shoot. If you load your own, a 410 followed by a 28 guage are the most fun and least expensive clay guns to shoot. 410 is what I shoot clays with the most.

I agree with Smokey on the loading and if you do go to an O/U the best thing you can do is load your own. Much, much faster than loading for center fire, cheaper and offers much more in load variation. I load 3/4 oz. in my 12 and love it.
