Measure base to base with top of rings off as close to bottom as you can, each side with calipers. Should get the same dimension. Or use a steel rule and lay it on edge base to base. It should be in full contact.

You are talking about the two piece that the rings rotate into place? Not a fan myself but have these rings on my first rifle, from way back.

And torque each side of the screws the same.

But really, for the love of God, find a different scope mount. They cause all kids of trouble. They should cease to exist, and Leupold should make a press release apologizing to the public for ever designing and producing such an abomination.

I think Redfield introduced the twist in base and Leupold popularized it.

Either way, you are correct, there are better choices.
