cracked up hominy. Take dried corn, add lye to remove the hull, wash it good- hominy. Use in soups, etc. Crack it up-- grits, grind it fine- Masa Flour for tortillas. Grits in a pot leave glue- that's what holds the tortilla together. You can boil corn meal- sort of like grits and no glue in the pot. BTW- as I understand it, NDNs in US came up with hominy, not Europeans.
