I did when I had hounds, Corps land, National Grasslands, WMAs in Ok, and smaller public tracts with adjacent landowners permission. Some places I was only allowed to run them for sport. Others I was encouraged to kill them. Some had restrictions to the type of gun I could carry. Same as any other kind of public hunting, check the rules for the specific area and call the controlling authority to ask.

That's something I really wanted to try. I like dogs. The whole thing is about the dogs. As I understand it, in South Carolina they have competition hunts. How many treed coons in how much time. Sort of a "Tahlequah- where the Red Fern Grows" kind of a thing. I think I'd wear goggles so I didn't poke my eyes out running through the woods at night. There's a guy in Arkansas that does a guided coon hunt but I don't know how much he charges. You probably have to be in pretty good physical condition. There was a guy in the Smoky Mountains that did a hound bear hunt. Well, a long drive. I asked how far you'd have to run. He said one bear ran 7 miles. That's a long way if in hills and off hiking trails, etc. There's a web site "Big Game Houndsman" you might want to try that.

We did back in the 70's. Not sure if you can today but I would think that you could. Adios, Gary

Thank you all. I’m going to try to get on some public land and see if any farmers will let me hunt but I doubt it around here.

Like Gary, I did back in the 70's. Way to many 5 acre ranches out there now days. Probably get shot nowdays. Most people that moved to the country have no idea about it, they just know that they don't like it or you. Maybe if you can get away from the city far enough on some big ranches you will be ok?
They make ammo specifically for hunting for a reason!

I wish you luck, some of my favorite memories as a kid was trailing a pair black and tans with my grandfather, chasing trash pandas through the East Texas piney woods.
Some days you're the pigeon, other days you are the statue!

Thank you all. I’m going to try to get on some public land and see if any farmers will let me hunt but I doubt it around here. Any farmers growing Melons will want you to hunt & kill all that you can.
