I picked up a Primary Arms GLx 4-16X50ffp in a trade, looking to get any first hand reviews on it. Any info on value also, it is the model with HUD 308 reticle. Seems like a solid scope with a good return to zero setup.

I have that exact model on my Tikka CTR 308. I love it. Does everything. I like the glass and especially the weight. Love the locking turrets.

I worked for Primary Arms for a little over a year and very versed on their scopes. They are a great company with great employees. I own several of their scopes and have recommended them to several of my friends. Great scope for the money and they come with a lifetime warranty. I have a FFP 4-14x44 with an R-Grid Milrad reticle mounted on an AR308 chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor. Took it from 300 yards to 800 yards in 100 yard increments on steel targets. I was able to hit the steel targets on the first shot each time. After six shots and six rings from each target I decided to head to the house.

Thanks for the info. I had a SLx a couple years ago that worked really well. Seems like the GLx is built better, turrets seem to have a more feel and glass seems a little better. I don’t have a 308 so going to try the reticle and see how it works with 6.5CM.

Engineer made reticle, not a shooter's reticle. Oh, they almost had it!

I have a 20” CTR going to see how some 140’s will line up. Probably a 300yd hunting rifle will be what it’s used for.

Lots of budget scopes out there with this BDC type crap. I will never buy them. Put a Mil reticle in it, and be done with it.

It’s designed to range a person in the reticle and use the BDC. It has Mils built in but they do make pure Mil reticles as well for target shooting. You would probably like this one better. I have this one on my 223 CTR. https://www.primaryarms.com/primary...-illuminated-acss-athena-bpr-mil-reticleThey are a Texas company based in Houston, they would probably send you some demo scopes to test and write a review.

"Combat type reticle" means nothing to me. If it is set for a .308 Win. What bullet weight? What BC? What MV? Out of what barrel length? All the BDC reticles are betting on "close enough". Close enough to what? Hitting a gigantic human torso? Or hitting an 8" set of deer vitals at 100 to 300 yards? I just don't live that way. I have a dealer account with them.

I have really grown to like the deka mil reticle. I thought I’d hate that Chevron but after giving it a chance I’m a fan. On the used market you can score a really good deal on the Plx with that reticle. If they would just do a 4-20x50/56 Id replace at least 4 scopes.

Primary Arms Advanced Combined Sighting System (ACSS) scopes were made for a 2-way range. They are based on military ammo in 5.56x45 and 7.62x 51. The barrel length, BC, MV, etc are listed in their manuals which can be downloaded from their website. But in reality they can be used on any rifle. By using an exterior ballistics App, any bullet and MV, regardless of caliber, can be used with their ACSS reticles. So they can be used for hunting should you want to. The leads are based on an average person walking, jogging, and running which makes them actually quite effective. Again, they are a combat type scope, they are not made for precision shooting as stated previously. However, they do make scopes for every application (hunting, precision shooting, 22 LR's). For those wanting a FFP scope without spending a lot of money they are are the ticket. With their whole product line there will be a scope for every persons skill level or discipline. I own several scope from various manufacturers that cover the range from inexpensive to high end. Most of the shooting I do is from 100-600 yards, their scopes will hold zero, return to zero if you are dialing the turrets, and will shoot MOA or better at these ranges. If I'm shooting a precision match then I step up to a scope designed to do just that. I no longer work for them but I can assure you I have nothing bad to say about their product line of scopes. Just my 2 cents.
