Here are the quotas set by commission this week. The Gov. will sign them into law soon but they will not change.
Make note of pronghorn quotas and where they were decreased.

Thanks for posting. Reduced the number of Pronghorn tags in 2 of the units I planned on applying for.

There are a couple of areas north of Laramie doing pretty well G&F said at the meetings. Licenses there are the same or maybe a few more.

I wouldn't count on a doe tag this year, we need to really think hard about filling any we draw when we get to the hunting area.

Some good news in a few sheep and moose areas. Changes and more licenses coming next year for sheep it sounds like too.

I guess if you don't like the way WG&F does things you can not come up here to hunt, lots of folks to take your place.
The quotas are what keeps our hunting enjoyable and not a zoo like Colorado OTC. cry

Wyoming Game and Fish sucks and you know it. Ripping off NR hunters for years, destroying the states fisheries, helping the feds with the wolf and bear programs. The stunning part is how anybody with a brain keeps bending a knee to them.

A good example of WGAF incompetence;

Due to habitat concerns and population declines in Wyoming, wildlife managers decided to cut 8,000 tags for hunting pronghorn and 3,300 tags for hunting mule deer. At last week’s Game and Fish Commission season-setting meeting, WGFD terrestrial habitat supervisor Ian Tator delivered a report that focused mainly on the drought in Wyoming to support these cuts.

The Snake River Basin snow water equivalents are at 85 percent of usual levels, central areas of the state are at 90 percent or more, and the Cheyenne River Basin sits at about 68 percent, according to the Gillette News Record. The drought is possibly the worst in a decade. About 63 percent of the state has severe drought and Teton and Park counties and north-central areas east of the Bighorn Mountains are experiencing extreme drought.

But the correct thing to do would be to increase harvest.

At first, reducing hunting licenses in response to a drought seems to make perfect sense, until one realizes that drought affects big game by reducing the amount of forage the animals have available. Here's the key quote in this article from Ian Tator: “That lack of soil moisture is going to limit our future shrub growth which is a critical component of big game winter diet,” Tator said. “If things don’t get better now, next winter we’re not going to have the shrub growth necessary to sustain those populations the way we want to.” If there isn't enough forage to sustain the population, then an enlightened approach to managing that population would be to reduce it. Trying to sustain a population above the number the forage can support simply means more overwinter starvation and, in much of Wyoming, significant long-term damage to forage plants. If available food is declining, harvest should be INCREASED in an effort to reduce the population before it does that long-term damage.

I've really begun to regret playing the preference point game in Wyoming. Hope others can learn from my mistake.

If it sucks so much why do you care?
Don't like NR fees. move here and enjoy the winters like the hardy folks already here.
Fisheries in our part of the state are doing well, where have they been destroyed?

Help with wolves and bears, you mean filing lawsuits over state management and delisting and shooting wolves on sight in most of the state?
Licenses numbers have been cut and to levels to sustain the populations.

Now you're an expert on Wyoming habitat and wildlife? Please, then move up here and help us manage the wildlife NRs are griping about not being able to hunt every year !! Wyoming wildlife depends on it .

Again , why do you care if it sucks so much.

As far as Liz, Texas has elected plenty of great politicians. Care to compare over the years?
I was born and raised in Texas, I know full well what that state has elected in the past and will in the future.

You all sure like to put down the states you like to hunt outside of Texas. Makes it hard to give a rats azz when it comes time for applications and hunting season advice, but I guess some of you could care less. Good luck in the future then.

I would pay no attention to them Wytex. I have hunted in New Mexico, Colorado, Montana and Wyoming and will take Wyoming all day everyday. I had the hunt of a lifetime there last year and killed a very nice bull elk. I should have enough points to draw a top unit for antelope this year and the same for mule deer next year.

Wytex goes to great lengths to offer good advice from an insiders point of view. I for one greatly appreciate it. Have a great day.

He's a hogslayer, no need to come to Wyoming, thankfully hogs are not an issue yet.

We get guys that can't accept Wyoming has the right to manage it's wildlife, private or public lands. It is ignorance and jealousy in many instances.
Makes my day to hear them say" I'll never apply in Wyoming".

I welcome any NR that respects our state and it's wildlife, fortunately that is the majority of good Texans I know.

By the way, check that snow pack for Gillette area, doom and gloom may not happen to the herds up there this year rickt300. The last big snow was a blessing for them. Hoping those ranchers can catch a break this spring and summer.

Never did I say anything about Wyomings game or that they didn’t have the right to manage it as they see fit. Put that wide brush down, you are just making a mess.

I agree with you they do a decent job in WY. CO is a zoo with all their multiple short seasons for deer and elk. Everybody gets a chance to hunt but its a quick hunt usually. Kind of a scramble and a zoo. I prefer the WY or OR draws where it may take a few years to get a tag but you’ve got 2 or 3 weeks to fill it and then its not such a crowd out there with every yahoo and his bestie racing around in their side by side.

Never said you did , but you did say never apply in Wyoming and like I wrote , that makes my day.

Your broad brush made a mess claiming I voted for Cheney, no one in our house did and I know that for a fact, we knew better.

Maybe we both should clean up that brush hogslayer.

rickt likes to bash Wyoming on very forum, except the western hunting forums, and I will stand up for the friends we have that work for WG&F and are on the commission. They are good folks doing good work. I take it personally when they get bashed by someone from out of state.

We were discussing wildlife quotas and someone had to go to the political dig, what a mess indeed.

Richard if you draw the right license you get 2 seasons to fill that tag, archery and rifle season.

I am not worried in the least. I stated a fact. You not liking that fact doesn't affect it being a fact even a little bit.
