I have these out for my livestock, 20%. I know deer hit my salt/mineral tubs, but will they take advantage of these?

Liquid or Solid?

They will on liquid but if it's to bitter they won't, unless it's real dry. I use to run a lot of liquid protein leaning out first calf heifers right before calving.

I had decent utilization by deer but not near the same consumption I had with cotton seed and peanut skills mix or pellets

Most cattle protein supplements don't gave same fiber content also. I think a specific deer formulation works exponentially better

Thanks, BOBO. I may put one out near a camera and see what happens. They're solid tubs.

We put out protein tubs as well, 28% protein, baked. Never seen any deer or evidence of deer around them, of course it also has molasses in it... i figure deer would be all over it. but i guess if they don't need the minerals they won't use it.

Do you have any problems with hogs getting all in 'em and on 'em? The basturds around here will eat anything I put out, and I'm afraid the hogs will beat the deer to them.

I’ve knocked back the hogs for now. We’ll see what happens when they come back.

If it’s got salt and sugar they will hammer it. Check ingredients for molasses, dextrose, etc. Other kinds of sugars. The taste of minerals and salt and sugar alone will make it work. You could always buy dextrose or maybe even just powdered sugar, and break it up and dump dextrose on it. That stuff gets in the wind and hits their nose and it’s over lol.

Man that dextrose is really something. That powdered dextrose cloud hits the nose and it’s like a hit of cocaine or crack.

Are you talkin' deer or hogs? I've made one batch of stuff I got off of a hog hunting Meat Eater episode, and the pigs do seem to love it, but the deer seem to like it too, especially in one trap. Kind of a silly recipe 'cause there's like 4 different types of sugar (koolaid, beer, sugar, jello mix, etc.), but it does suck pigs into the trap! Expensive when you're buying the ingredients at the Junction Lowe's. bang

It’s kind of expensive but you’re not filling your feeders with it. Just add to certain things to make them more attractive

Edit- Looks like about $70 for a 50 pound bag if you want to shop on Amazon or something. But remember you’re not filling the feeder with it, just add it to the stuff you want them to eat, that they ignore. Or you could break up a salt lick and a mineral lick and mix it with corn and dextrose in a little hole.

I am pretty sure most of the deer attractants at the store are little more than ground up minerals and ground up salt mixed with dextrose and/or molasses
