Just a heads up for any Fannin Co residents. Cielo Wind is trying to sneak in a major wind farm in Fannin Co between Dodd City and Honey Grove. The area would encompass ~80,000 acres and span 15-16 miles east to west. The area is right between the two new lakes that were promising to bring life back into the area. http://www.ntxe-news.com/artman/publish/article_128927.shtml [map in link] My property literally sits across the street from the southern-most turbines and the spot I plan to build a house on is a high point in the area which would now just look at 800 ft wind turbines. If you are a resident or own property in Fannin, a friend of mine has put together a petition and a website and is working with landowners and officials to stop it. Petition: https://www.ipetitions.com/petition/stop-fannin-windI will post up the opposition website when its online in a few days.

If you’re that close, you might as well invite them to place one on your property and collect the royalties.

That sux I hate seeing those turbines in pretty areas. Good luck with your petition the wind people have huge pockets and local officials are easily influenced!

If enough land owners are opposed, they will not complete the project. Unfortunately, most will probably do it for a dollar. We were able to keep them out in our area of Young county simply because none of us there wanted them. The monthly letters from their lawyers kept getting better to the point it was comical. More recently we had a situation in Jack county that got real heated on the subject. One Commissioner resigned due to a supposed death threat, the elections had more people running than usual, and social media was at its worst smearing peoples name. The wind farm company will not come without a tax abatement which is a sham in itself. Look at Bosque County and their amendment to abolish wind farm tax abatements, and study up on Montage and.Clay counties, they strongly oppose as well. There is a NTX heritage group that also advocates against them. All the people I know that have one near their house hate it, and some of the landowners that allowed one on their place wish they had not done it.

Sorry to hear this we just sold our place because of this 1/2 down the road. The rock trucks run 24 hours per day and when close to daylight the cement trucks start running. Oh yeah there building another building just like this except 200' longer. There will be 12 batch plants on 330 acres. We feel your pain and sorry to say but you won't win your fight. Money has already changed hands behind closed doors.

A petition, in almost any situation and especially in one like this, does absolutely nothing.

A petition, in almost any situation and especially in one like this, does absolutely nothing. Yep, it takes land owners saying no when offered.

Friend of mine bought land in Gober in 2000. A tower was built south of them to collect wind data. It was determined there was not enough wind to justify the turbines.
I am at the south end of Fannin County. We have 30 mph days, and we have a whole lot more of 0-7 mph days. I know very well, I shoot rifles notating wind speeds 52 weeks a year.
I like doing load development in the summer. When the temps exceed 90°F, the winds almost shut off. When it is hot, and you want wind, you won't get it.
The only way turbines would be built is from federal tax dollars being wasted on them. The private sector would not make such a terrible investment without getting the proper return.

Yep I went to the meeting Tursday evening. Lots of people there and lots of farmers. Only ones I have heard of that have signed up don't have nothing to loose and not much land. None of the farmers are going to sign up and lot of others will not either. They said people have a right but someone ask about their rights when they didn't want to give up their land for one of the new lakes but they didn't want to here that

Once the wind farms are built, they are not as worthless as the solar farms, but they are an eyesore and they do give someone other than the owner of the land dominion over your land. Big landowners stand to make the most money, of course, and most of the time big landowners already have their fair share of money. It will change your area forever. I hope you can fight them off.

They will make great tombstones when the subsidies run out. SCAM Ya, but show a non subsurface production land owner a better multi use ROI. You can’t do it farming, ranching or hunting I can’t blame them one bit for signing. Private property rights are foundation of America and Texas

That gives you an idea as to how big it is. We were headed to collinsville for a basketball game and that structure definitely sticks out of the landscape. It’s big no doubt. Wouldn’t be the neighbor I chose that’s for sure. We live in town and one of the reasons I settled on the lot we bought was I knew I wouldn’t be able to afford to buy enough property to where what my neighbors did would not effect my solitude. You live in the county and your neighbors decide to start stacking old cars. Tough crap. Etc etc etc. The little 2 1/2 acre lot let’s me park the toys shoot my bow with plenty of room for a garden and a chicken mansion.
