Looking for a cheap hand held that will only be used 2-3 times a year. No need for recording just able to detect and perhaps identify at 100 yards.
Thanks.

Checkout Visir inc dot com

I used the E2N and it works inside a 100 yards just fine

I’m taking receipt on the E3W tomorrow and will have some video to share soon with that - I’ll post it here

Bottom line: 4-5 years ago you couldn’t touch thermal for $ 1k and now it’s not only possible but frankly sort of ok-ish in performance so long as your expectation are realistic.

Also it makes recovering game a lot easier

Check out the AGM Taipan, 19mm version. It's good enough to sit in a deer blind and identify pigs, deer and cows. Probably 150 yards or so.

Yea they been around forever , look at the refresh rate and depending on the age of the unit the core tech will be dated

I certainly would choose the newer models listed above dollar for dollar

Avoid the FLIRs at all cost. Old outdated at this point.

What is your price range? AGM has some really good pricing on their entry level and sub-entry level handhelds.

I would add that FLIR completely dropped their civilian weapon optic division and want little to do with us. Also, I have dealt with getting products serviced by them. Only ATN was worse.

For the record, I have dealt with Armasight, FLIR, Trijicon, Pulsar, and ATN on getting thermal products serviced.

I had a FLIR scout prob 5 years ago. You might be able to see something at 100 yds but you would not know what it is.Maybe 50 yds you could tell a calf from a hog.

About the cheapest useable monocular I’m aware of at the moment is a 256 res , 25hz unit called the E2N

I actually was able to detect further than i thought I would and sitting still in a blind with a steady hold I could ID pigs at 100 yards.

Here is some footage:
